The main reason is poor app quality and selection as most Android tablet apps are upsized phone apps.
Also poor build quality, reliability, and support.
Inferior screens.
No LTE except for one that I can think of.
Terrible interface that is different for the sake of being different.

If only there were a zillion keyboard solutions for the iPad.

When the iPad 2 was released the Android competition had better screens and LTE. LTE and a decent screen is only a recent addition to the device.

I have a Xoom and just sold my iPad 2 for the new iPad (wifi).

So I have a device thats less the 6 months old and an android tablet that's over a year and a half old. And the only thing that's better on the iPad is it's screen. The cameras aren't as good, there is no camera flash, there is no real USB hosting, mono speaker, no sd card. Build quality and reliability is the same, however I know there are some cheap feeling android tablet.

I do like my iPad but even in its 3rd iteration it lacks in some things.

IPad has better apps and more updates.

Android tablets offer more functionality, but have horrible apps and almost no updates.

Well I have had my Nexus 7 for almost 36 hours now and I got to say, this thing is a joy to use. In total it is half the size of an iPad, but I don't have any issues using it. I think Jobs had it all wrong and I really believe an iPad mini will sell like hotcakes! Especially, if the keep the price around $250.

I was also thinking of buying one. I would have prefered 9 inch screen.

However, since I already have my SGS3, I can use it for almost everything I was planning to do on an Android tablet: downloading torrents, playing emulators, uploading any type of file to my NAS, organizing my pictures folders with the file browser, etc.

Right now I'm satisfied, so I really don't see the need I had before of buying the nexus 7.

I'm gonna wait to try one in person hoping that it will change my mind :D:D

Personally, I have to have a tablet. I can't use a phone for web surfing. That is just me though.

Here is one really, really awesome thing I learned about the Nex7 though. When you come across tiny text and just tap on it, a nice big bubble comes up with a few lines of the surrounding text area you clicked, or in the case below, which Page of this thread I wanted. It is then a piece of cake to select what I want. Don't know if this is a Nex7, Chrome or JB feature? Check it. Apple needs to copy this. No long press to get a tiny magnifying glass on mobile devices.

Simple, Apps/ecosystem and price points. Android has almost caught up to iOS in terms of Apps on phones. Android for tablet Apps, not even close to iOS in terms of numbers or quality. There also is nearly no ecosystem that force people into Android tablets

Also, manufactures continue to struggle to make quality products such as the iPad at the price of the iPad. Only now are we seeing quality at the same or cheaper price as the iPad (such as the Transformer series).

Yeah, that's a function of vanilla ICS. It's very very useful. Anytime a button press is in question you get that box.

yeh that's a cool feature of ICS. When I flashed the custom ICS rom on my phone that was one of the first things I notice. That is such a simple but immensely useful feature of ICS

The Nex7 is my first time playing with a vanilla version of Android. I never knew about this feature before. Why in the hell would Samsung drop this feature in Touchwiz? That is beyond stupid!
Anyway, as usual thank you for the info Cynics. Much gratitude. :D

My plan is to buy a new tablet this year. My iPad 1 is good for now, but I've always felt it was too restricted. I need a tablet to be able to replicate at least some of the basic functionality of a laptop, and Android does offer that.

I'm also waiting to see the surface. Tried Windows 8 a few weeks ago and didn't like it too much.

So my plan is to wait to try out the nexus 7 and the surface and decide then.

iphone has a smaller screen than most high end android phones (also lower resolution) and is much more expensive than android phones with similar specs. (galaxy nexus e.g.) , ipad 3 has the best screen among all the tablet and is not much more expensive than comparable android tablet. Not to mention the app problem with android tablet.

I have an iPhone 4s, and iPads 2 & 3. In addition I have a Galaxy Nexus & Nexus 7 tablet.

Each of these two very different platforms, have their pros and cons. That's precisely why I bought both.

As with most products, it's more about what _you_ like and what fits your needs, than for someone to declare what's best.

In a word, they are simply "different". As this forum proves, the features and benefits can be argued ad naseum.

I'm very happy with my choices, especially since they each perform as I expected them to.
