I'm coming from a 9.7 IPP so multitasking on an 11 feels like a step up. Still loving my 11 and have zero regrets about returning the 12.9.

Dude. I’m coming from the iPad mini...So I totally understand what you mean! Lol. Right Before these iPad pros were announced, I wasn’t even considering the 12.9” because it was so unwieldy. It’s a testament to how much Apple improved the form factor on the new pros, that the decision was tougher this time. But my initial gut feeling still said the 11”was the better choice for me too. And after much testing back & forth, my gut was confirmed. But it took awhile.

There is nothing wrong with your decision. I get that you’re.... maybe.... looking for some reassurance (I don’t mean it in a bad way) - so here is some: you made a good decision. At the end of the day, both options are really good. Also, whatever you ended up with, there would be some situations where the other option would seem better :) Sometimes when I lie in bed and the 12.9” still feels big and heavy, I’m thinking: I wish I had an 11”. Or when I just want to sketch something quickly and need a digital notepad. On the other hand, when I hook my iPad to the Mac and start Astropad to do some Zbrush, I’m glad I have the bigger screen. Or when I’m sitting at my desk and doing a full illustraton.

At the end of the day, both options are really good, but only you know which one you’re leaning towards. And yeah, multitasking is not really the best reason to get the bigger one some people make it to be, and you demonstrated that nicely.

With that said, like you, I’m really happy with my choice. iPad is my main tool for work, and I really like the size, but I could do this work with an 11”, too.

Yes, the grass is always greener on the other side as they say. Lol. But actually this thread wasn’t about any second guessing on my part. I am 100% happy with my choice of going with the 11” iPad Pro. Full stop. I had already reached that “Ah Ha!” Moment where things just clicked, and my decision became crystal clear. Ya know when you just know? I reached that moment where I knew in every fiber of my being that I made the right choice for me with the 11” iPad Pro and so I ordered it without any doubts.

This post today was more about highlighting some of the things I learned in my long drawn out indecisive phase when I was angsting over which one to get. Lol. I just thought the split screen issue wasn’t fully explored in a lot of the posts I read here. It was just washed over with a blanket statement of “If you want to do any multi tasking or use split screen at all...you gotta get the 12.9””...end of story. I dunno. I just thought it was interesting to discover, at least for me...that the issue wasn’t as black & white as I was led to believe. That as awesome as the 12.9” was for some split screen stuff, that I actually preferred the 11” split screen for many apps & views.

So I was passing this info on to others who may not yet have made up their minds.

I think I qualified some of my posts this morning by pointing out how great the 12.9” screen was too. I definitely didn’t want to come off as knocking the 12.9”, cause that’s not the case either. It’s definitely lust worthy, and I could see myself getting both if money was no object. The 11” just worked better for me all around, so that’s what I got.

I hope my post today helped others who may be on the fence trying to decide. I fully recommend going to the Apple store for long hours and ignore the sales staff while you compare them side by side. Get into a zen Jedi mind state. Lol. Feeeel the force. It will come to you which is best for your needs.

I guess it depends in part on what you do in the split screens. My typical use would involve having a Word document open in one and a PDF in the other. For that, I think the 12.9 would make everything more readable unless I’m missing something.

Totally. Makes total sense. I agree. But I also found it varied a lot from app to app and view size to view size. I highly encourage people to check many apps they use side by side to compare and see for themselves. I was already sold on the 11” for my traveling needs...but I was just surprised that when I took a closer look at the split screen issue...it wasn’t as clear cut as I was led to believe. Even tho the 12.9” tended to show more info...Some content was a lot bigger on the 11” model. So I showed some visuals of what I experienced.

I bought the 11” yesterday. Had a play last night and today and massively underwhelmed, so much so, i’m gonna return it. Mainly webpages rendering less “stuff".

Really wanted the smaller IPP (have 1st Gen 12.9), but despite lots of research, I made a mistake.

Gonna stick with my current IPP. Never returned an Apple product before.

Hey, that’s totally cool. No sense in updating if you don’t have to or it falls short of your expectations for whatever reason.

It’s interesting how you said the 11” iPad was rendering less “stuff” on webpages. I definitely noticed it portrayed less info than the 12.9” iPad Pro...but I also noticed that the info it did show like photos & graphics were often bigger and more readable on the 11” when compared to the 12.9”. Again, it varied, but I noticed it often enough. In Apps too. Like the iTunes Store & the App Store. I found the 12.9” showed more apps, graphics & items per row, but the 11” showed larger graphics that filled the screen which I found more immersive. Also, there was so much wasted space between graphics on the 12.9” often. Like in the iMessage app it is ridiculous how much blanks white space there is between messages & emojis.

But in the end, both iPad Pros are equally awesome...although not for everyone. And like you, if I was coming from a previous iPad Pro instead of an iPad mini & 9.7” iPad, I probably wouldn’t upgrade now either. I’d probably wait until 2020 which is when the next iPad pros should be coming if you go by the recent update cycle.

I agree. I like wider instead of taller. I am really liking the new aspect ratio.

Yes, I really like the new aspect ratio. Most of the apps I really use have been updated already. I keep wondering if I should have gotten the 12.9 but everything I do to an Apple store and play with one for a while I decide to stay with the 11".

I think the 11" is adorable, I kind of want to just give it some water and food, and wrap it in a little blanket and cuddle it like a baby... and hey, I might get part of my man card taken away by saying: it's a very cute iPad. ;):D
The 12.9" is a better choice for me though. I liked the 10.5" and got used to the size, but after I sold it to get one of the new models (kind of considering the 11" iPad)... the size looked way too tiny for some reason, but it was the speakers being a bit more beefy on the larger one that sold me. I'm an audiophile and I'm not ashamed to admit it... even though I think that is a stupid word to describe people who are fans, work with, and are sensitive to sound. :apple::)

Kallum.

I’ve had the 9.7 and the gen 1 12.9 at the same time. Both have their strong points, but the keyboard of the 9.7 was really too cramped. So I bought the 10.5 when it came out and loved it for ultralight travel, days away, meetings where I was just needed to be present etc. 12.9 was destroyed by a crashing into concrete and I replaced the 12.9 and my macmini with a MacBook Pro. The 9.7 was sold, the 10.5 remained and was used daily in combination with a MacBook Pro.
But I couldn’t resist and bought the 11. It’s only incremental better then the 10.5, but on so many parts that it feels almost completely new. A bit bigger screen in the same package. Straight edges, folio keyboard, pencil 2, usb-c. It’s really nice imho.
But it is foolish to upgrade a 10.5 to an 11, yet very nice...

Kinda interesting because the 11” replaced the 10,5” which replaced the 9.7”

They all catered to the same market

True, as I said there was some reason to upgrade from the 9.7 to the 10.5 (small keyboard) but from The 10.5 to The 11 is much harder to explain

The 12.9 just isn’t comfortable for me while moving around a lot or on the couch or in bed. I’d love to have both sizes to be honest. One at my desk and one for everything else.

Of the 11" iPad Pro right ?

Yes, I like it better than the 12.9. The larger size is a bit too squarish for me.

This will depend a lot on how individual websites as optimized for different screen sizes and I suppose it applies to apps too. The 12.9" will opt for the desktop version of a site in a lot of cases if it is just based on screen size and personally I like that.

The new 11" model does hit a good compromise between size and viewable content though. I was surprised how much I liked it whereas when I compared the 10.5 and 12.9 2nd gen models side by side the 12.9 was the clear winner to me.
