Hi,
actually I have an iMac, but after that I see the price of the actual line of iMac... I'm asking:
- why buy an iMac when with less $$$ I can buy a Windows 10 computer (that is not bad as OS) with the same configuration? If I spent the same $$$ I will buy a super mega hardware configuration.
What do you think? Why continue to buy iMac or Mac product?
Bye Bye
Tell people what you want to do with your computer, and we can suggest things from there. It will be easy to tell if you can stick with a Mac. IMO, the cost of a Mac is worth it for the hassles I personally have encountered. Even when my iMac decided that my boot drive was empty, I was able to reinstall fresh from the internet. That's
ludicrous. I lost a few hours max.
If you need lots of cores or lots of GPUs, there is no question about where your money should be spent when Threadripper exists. If you intend to mainly game, buy a PC.
If money is your only concern, and that's a fair concern to have, then buy a PC. The price war AMD is waging with intel means you win.
Just know what you are doing: buy some good anti-malware, buy from a company that has good
local warranty service, or build yourself and be prepared to troubleshoot if the platform is new. Things might go without a hitch, or they might not. But budget for time as well as cost just in case. I built a PC years ago (my first one) and when my first boot got stuck in a boot loop, I found it to be stressful and it ate up my whole weekend. It still occasionally acts up, but mostly it's been solid.
When things did go wrong on my PC, and I found myself staring at a blue screen of low resolution text or some error code that I needed to translate online, I got extremely frustrated. While I was able to fix everything myself at fairly low cost, it did cost me
time. I don't get that back. I would rather take my computer to an Apple Store and have them fix it, and go home and do something else or go swim.
Is that worth it to you? It might be for me. I'm busy, I'm getting older, and I'm getting crankier.
IMO, processors are
fantastic on the PC side right now. For myself I wouldn't overclock anything so I wouldn't need to invest the extra time testing for stability. And god knows I don't need extra heat in my room.
