I've not had an issue with it either, except the next day's predictions were often off, while my favorite local weather girl was usually more accurate (I assumed they both used different official weather services...)

You don't have an issue with the app, except that it often give gives you false information? Wow.

The reason is simple: Apple doesn't give a damn about quality anymore. Their weather app has been abysmal for years. They bought the very best weather app on the market and promptly made it the most awful.

Apple simple just does not care anymore.
It’s not as bad as the mail app tho. That thing is almost unusable for me.

I am not sure it's the app. Weather forecasts have always been only slightly more accurate than astrology. It's looks like a legitimate science, but the result has never been.

I remember reading once that if you say "The weather today will be exactly the same as it was yesterday" you'll be right more often than the Met Office.

Probably not, but not all of are experiencing this problem. In my experience, the Apple Weather app has been quite reliable. I was surprised at your posting and assumption that this was a universal situation. Perhaps you will get other people posting here have had problems like this.
They have. 😉

I guess it’s just me and the OP then when Apple weather says 0% chance of rain when it’s absolutely pouring outside? 🤔
I noticed the same lately, it was raining for a few hours, I checked Apple weather during the first 2 hours and it was still showing cloudy only, while the other weather apps I have installed were accurate.

It's one thing not being able to predict the weather, but to not even update that it's raining after a couple hours, shows how unreliable it is at the moment.

I’m not sure how to explain Apple saying it’s 80 degrees when Weather.com, WeatherBug, Accuweather and so on all say it’s 72. Or Apple consistently showing a lower UV index than everyone else. I don’t even mind a crappy forecast, but current conditions should be right, no?
There could be an issue with the instruments that Apple (or more accurately the company they are getting their data from) is having in the area that other companies aren’t having. Point is, it’s not Apple’s fault. It’s whatever company they are using to get their data from. The accuracy of that company varies from place to place which is why some people have great results while some have poor results. This is unfortunately the nature of meteorology

This may be an unpopular opinion, but Dark Sky never really worked that well—interpolating radar data is great when you have very high reflectivity moisture-laden cells but fails miserably on fainter "roiling" patterns—so it's not surprising that Apple's acqui-hired version has some issues. Then again, our weather here in the midwest U.S. is so infamously finicky that no weather app or source is reliably correct for even current conditions and conversation about the weather is not considered small talk, so perhaps the messenger doesn't deserve that much of the blame.

I really miss The Weather Channel being the data source for the app. It seemed a lot more accurate then, and is backed up by the data for my area (forecastadvisor.com). Ever since Apple bought Dark Sky and switched away from TWC, the data sucks.

Well, talk about the weather can be small talk, if the weather’s good or if you’re talking about recent weather. But yeah, weather is serious business in the Midwest (both because of agriculture and because of how extreme the weather can get).

It's completely messed up since iOS 16. I hate ad-ridden third-party apps but I switched to The Weather Channel's app just because at least it's accurate. Apple Weather is nothing more than a random shuffle. It'll say there's thunderstorms while it's sunny, say it's sunny and hot while it'll literally be snowing, etc.

If The Joker had an app, it would be Apple Weather. 😆

Why is Apple’s weather app so bad? I know Apple isn’t generating the data. And it’s not that the data is bad, because weather.com is seemingly correct, it’s that Apple is delivering bad or severely delayed info.

For example, I’m in the south Chicago suburbs. We just had a small cold front come through which knocked the temp from about 85 to 72. Even as I write this two hours after the temperature drop, Apple is still telling me it’s 80 degrees. All other sources, including weather.com, have it at 71 or 72.

So, why is Apple bad at the delivery? And slightly unrelated, why is the Apple weather radar so unreliable? Is this maybe an OS problem or something systemic on Apple’s side that is causing the data to be delayed?
It’s currently working better for me. Not sure if it was ios18 or I changed to always in location. Also needs precise.

the internet, mostly
For a variety of (mainly geographical) reasons, US weather models and data do not work particularly well on the Central European mainland. In Germany, Apple seems to use the data from the German Weather Service, but makes very strange calculations with it, which often don't fit at all. However, this also makes many other weather apps useless for me, either because they only use ‘international’ models (i.e. often not suitable for Europe) or because they do not incorporate data sources suitable for local conditions.

WeatherMate and Carrot seem to deliver pretty good results here if you configure the data source and model correctly. There's a rain shower in the region today, so I can do a reliability test while looking out of the window. (The most reliable weather app for Germany, Austria and Switzerland in my test so far, Kachelmann's Pflotsh, is unfortunately suitable for sending me to the loony bin in the long term).

Wales
Going against the grain, and after trying out numerous weather apps to the 'Nth' degree, I actually quite like the Apple weather app.
In the UK, indeed, in Wales and I find that the imminent weather - the alerts which say it is about to start or stop raining in a few minutes - are sometimes stunningly accurate. Sometimes not!

The general impression of upcoming weather is often acceptable. But it is very difficult to find any weather forecast which is reliable for tomorrow and the next couple of days. And I really want is to know if it will be wet/rainy, windy, and a vague indication of temperature.
