Haha that's brilliant :L "Uniquie, just like everyone else..."

Personally, I agree with the article. For the price of their hardware, Apple's software support is awful, ditching older software nearly as soon as its successor is released. It has certainly put me off buying new Apple hardware.

Now their OSs are free, I guess it isn't as bad since there is little excuse not to upgrade (unless your machine is deemed too old). But I would love to see Apple put some more effort in supporting their older software. My iMac G4 cannot run the latest iTunes and yet the even older XP family desktop can, simply because of Apple's habit of ditching support fast.

Some parts of that article are too eager to attack and are over-zealous, but overall I agree with the message it has. It is easy to find an article bashing pretty much anything on the internet.

What about the iPhone 3GS being supported from 2009 until 2013 up to iOS 6, and then it even got a security update in 2014.

The sort of support is unseen...anywhere.

Not saying Apple is the best at all, but they aren't the worst.

The anti-Apple crowd has been around for a very very long time.

It predates the Mac itself, and it got a lot worse when the Mac came out.

If you haven't been told of the error of your ways, then you're very lucky indeed.

For years, I was anti-Mac. I called it the CRapple MacIntrash. Resisted it in every way possible. My phone was a BlackBerry and my computer, Windows. Things have changed since exploring a MacBook.

Can you explain why you hated Mac when you hadn't actually used one?

I admit I like non-Apple PCs. In fact, I like them a great deal. I am not overly fond of Apple's computers though they often look very nice. However, I do prefer OSX over Windows.

What I don't like are people who hate Apple without reason and even more so I don't like Apple fanboys who think Apple can do no wrong.

Of all the OS's I still miss OS/2 the most.

All I have to use is a PC. I hate that stupid thing and wish I had a Mac. I want a Mac more then anything. I call this PC user very unhappy.

There are exceptions to the pattern occasionally. OS X Tiger was supported for three years, which is a very long time for OS X and was given 11 updates. But the majority of Apple's support lifecyles put in comparison to Google and Microsoft's is quite lame for the price their products cost.

Doesn't make them bad products. And it doesn't mean you have to stop using them after support ends. I still use my iMac G4 on a regular basis. If you know what you're doing, you can cope with Apple's quick support lifecycle (on OS X at least. iOS is a different beast since its all locked down.)

I never hate on PC / Android folk, always receive hate unprovoked just at the slightest mention or Apple. I'd say 90% of them are between the ages of 15-30 and have self esteem issues which cause them to have to tie themselves to a competitor brand and mock a huge company to make themselves feel higher. I have given up saying anything to them but when I used to respond it would be along the lines of

"So you have become upset and angry by hating on a company to defend another company, neither of which you have any influence or get affected by financially yet you let your emotions take front line in a senseless war between two giants using their dimwitted players as pawns, keep trying."

Having used Apple products many years before, I felt that Apple tried to make their products almost idiot proof. Apple was using GUI when MS Dos was using text. Back then Apple had limited software available where everything was written for the PC.

To this day, Microsoft Office is the most used office suite even on the Mac. The ability to boot into Windows as a native environment or emulated sold me. If I didn't like it or couldn't adjust to it, I could always use it as a Windows machine. My Macs are loaded with software. I have Pages, Numbers and Keynote on all of them but I almost always use Word, Excel or PowerPoint. Outlook is still better than Mail.

I believe versatility won me over.

Android bash iOS.
Nikon bash Cannon.
Ford bash GM Motors.
Windows bash Macs

The truth is just make your choices based on what you want or need and don't worry what everyone else does. I've used PC's most of my life (and still do at work). At home I chose to have a Mac because it works best for my needs. I don't really care what everybody else is using. I'm happy that's all that matters. I'm not on a crusade to convert PC or Android users.

Everyone wants to belong to a group and feel accepted and valued as a member of it. The clan mentality from thousands of years ago is still with us. It is common to "join" a sports team by becoming a fan and use words like "we" and "us" even though we're not actually members of the team. We want to feel like we are a part of something. We treat the successes of the team as our own successes, and see attacks from rival fans as personal attacks directed at us.

The same is true of technology. We "join" a clan by purchasing a product, thus putting us at odds with rival clans. That's why there are Apple fans who indignantly scoff at all things Samsung, Microsoft fans who do the same to Mac users, BSD fans who do the same to Linux users, etc.

It's actually interesting to watch it play out on the forums here. People use words like "the enemy" to refer to Samsung, even going as far to say that people who switch from Apple to Android should "suffer the consequences" (direct quote from a different thread). It's as if we aren't in well developed countries in the 21st century bickering about mostly unnecessary and similar technological products--we are instead roving through the forest in 1000 BC constantly on alert for raiders from the Android clan living in the next village.

Human beings are odd creatures.

Great article about it: http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2013/05/15/the_call_of_the_clan

People always fear what they do not understand. And to them ridiculing this they do not understand is ok to them.

Just don't worry about it. At least you are smart enough not to buy into this ****.

Many websites like it to write complete nonsense just to generate clicks, nothing more.

In some cases however, they really have trolls doing research for them. An example from CNN:

I was hoping to keep using my white macbook with Snow Leopard for as long as I possibly could especially after bumping up the ram. Unfortunately with the death of the wireless card and the failure of the number 1 key it was time to retire it after nearly 6 years of use. Can't complain I suppose, I just hope my current hardware holds out as long and enough people keep using Mavericks that Apple support it for as long as SL. That and that the next two or so OSs are quite generous in their hardware support. At the end of the day though you just use whatever works for you and is affordable. Does the article really throw about negative views of Apple users though? It seems to address concerns about Apple leaving SL users behind regarding security updates and these users unwillingness to upgrade because SL works for them etc Topics I am sure have been covered before in MacRumors. As to the pic why worry about it anyways. :)

My GF's cousin is a proud Xbox 360 owner as are most of her family members of a similar age. He tried to provoke a PS3 (which I own) v Xbox debate with me and I just shrugged and gave no reason for my preference.

He seemed genuinely baffled that it was a simple practical choice (next-gen at the time and a blu-ray player). He couldn't accept it wasn't a deep, philosophical gesture on my part.

Never trust any sod who zealously picks one brand and despises those who use another. I just looked out the window. The guy over the road drives a Peugeot. I drive a Toyota. I think I'll put a brick through his window.

The question isn't "Why is it normal to ridicule..."
The question should be "Why does anyone care?"

Why do you care what they think? I didn't buy a Mac to be better or more stylish than the next person. I bought it because it's what I wanted and needed.

KISS- Keep It Simple, Sir

To be honest I find most Mac users to be elitist pricks that think there's nothing better ever created and the hand of god delivered Apple products.

I use a Mac, but I'm not condescending about it. I was recently talking to an IT guy who loves PC's. When I told him I used a Mac he shook his head and told me he can't stand Mac users because they automatically think they're better than everyone else, they're crappy for gaming, and PC's are a better value for performance. I told him I don't care what you use, I don't game, and I don't care about power. I just like the experience and simplicity more. We were good friends after that.

It's all about the way you present yourself.

There's two sides to every coin.

I use Apple computers, pre-built servers with Windows, a built gaming rig with windows, a Mac mini, and other devices. I use whatever works and whatever is appropriate. I always find the online battles funny and like to poke holes in both sides irrational arguements.

I guess I'm the opposite. I've been an Apple user for over 30 years, and been a mac user for over 20, and find their recent software changes absolutely abhorrent. The new numbers is an abomination, and I've heard that Pages is even worse. Final Cut Pro got the chop a few years ago (although I think it picked back up), and much of their other media software is just gone. They've tried to make everything so simple and basic, that it's barely useable in any real capacity any more.

But I have far too much invested to move.

You know those people though. The ones that think their poop don't stink. There's Windows fan boys that think the same way. They tout that PCs will vastly outperform Apple with similar hardware. The difference is, to get that type of performance for cheap, you have to go with a bare bones PC and anymore, they all use the same type of hardware with an exception to GPUs if you're sticking a high end one in your computer.

Sure you can build a monster that will perform just as well as, if not better than a mac pro for less, but you're not using Xeon processors, you won't have blue tooth, and other extras. You can build a killer box that will outperform an iMac in every way for less money until you stick a 27" IPS monitor on it and add all the other accessories. It's definitely possible to get more performance for the money out of a self built PC if you go with just the basics. I built a gaming PC that ran about $1500 and was more powerful than the $2000 Mac Pro, but it had an i7 rather than a Xeon processor, and was basically just a bored, memory, GPU, power supply, HDD, and disc drives.

I was the exact same, used Apple products for quite a while, but then they started letting me down.Fortunately, I'm still in the ecosystems of Microsoft, Google, BlackBerry and many others too so slowly ditching my Apple products as they age hasn't been very hard.

I don't know. While I know those people are out there, I haven't really had that kind of interaction in many years. It probably has to do with the fact that I tend not to associate with the type of person who would base their relevance off what computer platform they use. I work with people who use every sort of computer, and haven't heard in years someone say "why would you use a mac" or "why would you use a PC".
