Some of you never used this POS, and it shows. The new remote is FAR better in every way.

I can use that one, and it's the remote that my wife prefers. It handles all of the basic functions. Far from a "POS".
I respect that you have a different view than I do. But my issues with it were that half the time the button presses didn't register, the battery died too quickly and wasn't rechargeable, it didn't have a volume button (one of the MOST basic of functions) making me use 2 remotes to control one thing, it slipped between couch cushions way easier because of its tapered design, and you couldn't swipe and glide down a list you had to press the button over and over.

The button presses not registering and the lack of volume were the most maddening problems though. I had 3 of them, so it wasn't like one was defective.

literally the ********* remote ever. this whole swiping nonsense for some dumb UI effects is so bad and terrible. the ring around the center button. constantly malfunctions. just a ****** design overall. and annoying. apple has become everything about aestetics and nothing about practicality.
It does the job, I don’t mind it.
Might not have the iconic style of an iPod but it’s ok.
Better than some of the remotes of had for smart TVs.

I think its great personally. I think it combines touch and press function well. Not the best at either but good at both. And im far from an Apple apologist. I even liked the previous touch version as well, which was a fantastic touch control, but the press function to move directions wasnt the best. Hated the previous two before that. I have not seen any other remote for a set top box or even a tv, that comes even close unless you like a giant plane cockpit with a button for everything type of remote.

My only gripe is it’s too small and easily falls down couch crevices! I finally found mine after a year but now it’s broken 😞

Your Subject line should be "Why I think ..." not "Why is ...". You are not God.

You tell us why it sucks. We didn't create this thread.

Its true. A cheap case helps increase the footprint, some glow in the dark and compatible with airtag. Next gen remote should be FindMy compatible.

It's fine.

What's not fine is that they cannot be repaired at all, even if you have a donor, its just not practical, especially on the black model. In fact, repairability is just short of almost impossible.

Not cool at all.

Don’t mind the design, just needs a speaker for Find My. It always finds its way into the sofa cracks and a speaker would be super useful. Finding the general location of it is easy with the iPhone but needs more precision. Otherwise the power button fell off one of the new ones. I’d give it a pass at 8/10. Use it daily and like that it’s not a huge remote like all the others

What?
I absolutely love it.
Just turn the touch feature off and the haptic is super nice.

Buy the Function101 remote...in fact, buy 5 like me (one in every room and one for travel). You're welcome.

there is a lot of life in this, i just felt like someone had to say it. and worst of all, those remotes get ice cold in the winter. did you or ur girl ever roll over their back on an ice cold apple apple remote? dude...

I personally love the design itself, but the newest iteration of the Siri remote is super buggy. I feel like it disconnects itself half the time.

Yes! OK, that is a real issue. It shocks the hell out of me when I accidentally lay on it. :D

I don't think it's the worst device but it's certainly the worst remote I've ever had. The whole ring and button design doesn't feel well thought out and is clumsy. It's super easy to do something you didn't intend to. And the remote needs to be rebooted occasionally because something stopped working (i.e. volume control)

Forgive my ignorance: how do you reboot an Apple remote?

I’m surprised that no one has mentioned using the remote control function that runs on an iPhone as an alternative to using what I agree is a terrible device (the ATV Siri Remote). I have an older iPhone (a 10XR) that I use primarily to control various devices in my home theater setup. It controls my Monolith HTP-1 processor, my Sonos Port music streamer, and my ATV4K. For anyone not familiar with the remote control function on the iPhone, which can be accessed from the Control Center, I have attached a screenshot below. It is really much easier to use than the ATV remote.

Orrr the fact that all AppleTv devices support IR, so you can use any IR learning/smart remote solution you'd like.
