Totally agree. Speaking for myself and having the X for a year now, I could never go back to LCD, no matter what apple is calling it.

The XR is not much faster than the X, it does not have a superior camera, the slightly larger display is LCD and not OLED, battery life is slightly better on the XR, and I could care less about fun colors as the color adds nothing to my iOS experience. 3D touch is a big deal to many many people, myself included. If this feature were to be removed from future iPhones, I know that I would miss it greatly. If 3D touch remains a premium feature, all the better. The better choice is the X and certainly the XS or X Max over the XR. In my opinion, while a real nice phone, it is totally over hyped.
My biggest issue with the Xr is the display. I wouldn’t pay £899 for a sub 1080p display. The only thing I think that is better than the X is the processor and the wide angle camera. I Struggled to justify the upgrade from my X to the max. I would not upgrade from the X to the Xr. It’s a nice phone through and will suit a lot of people. The coral is nice too. I would have liked one when I was a student.

The bezels do look big but it’s all relative. Compared to the Xs and many android phones they are big but compared to the 8/8 plus they are small. Whilst I like the minimal bezels on the Xs max and my old X. This time last year I was using a 7 plus which had massive bezels.

I claimed it was not superior. I was not changing my mind.

OK, fair point. I went on the defensive because all I hear is how superior the new cameras are when I am taking unbelievable photos and video with my X.

Another good point. I was arguing from the stand point that the X is not an inferior camera in the sense that suddenly photos taken with the phone are garbage. I did not convey my point very well.
I think it depends on what metrics you are using. The Xr has a better wide angle lens than the X and uses computational photography but the X has a telephoto lens and can do better portrait photos and has 2 x optical zoom. So I don’t think it’s as straight forward as saying that the Xr unquestionably has the better camera.

Very well put. You said it much better than I did. A slightly improved camera to me does not unquestionably make the newer camera better, or 'superior.' If it was that easy, we should all be bowing to the pixel.

I would gladly take the pixel camera. It does for the most part produce superior photos. That being said, for the majority of people (especially those that mainly view their pictures on their phones) the gap is neglible.

Is it a function of LCD vs OLED? Or intentional to make the XR seem a little less premium? The color matched wallpapers for the XR models are cool but they really do accentuate the bezels. IMO if the XR bezels were as thin as the XS it would be perfect in terms of design.

It’s because of the backlight connections at the bottom and rather then give the XR a chin, they’ve giving it a slightly bigger border all the way round. And I would wait to see it in person before thinking how different it is to the XS.

As the OP who stated "better camera" who started this whole kerfuffle, I feel I should step in here. I definitely misspoke by simply stating "better camera" and should have said "better wide-angle" camera. In my defense, I did mention that the X has the telephoto lens which kind of makes the camera differences "a wash." I think I also just said "camera" instead of wide-angle lens, because I use that one 90%+ of the time, so I just kinda consider it the standard "camera."

Yes the pixel 3 with night mode (especially with night mode) is like drool worthy crazy.

because they are made of liquid. get it?
Even the side bezels of the iPhone X/XS is slightly bigger than the iPhone 6/6S/7/8 though. XR side bezel is the same size as iPhone 4S.

The Display color resolution wise for iPhone XR is about the same as 6/6S/7/8 (Slightly better than iPhone 5/5S/SE)

But for the color or saturation the XS display compared to iPhone 8 is 10 times better, and about 10 times sharper and crisper than old iPhone 6/7/8.

Am I the only person who prefers a thicker black bezel on any sort of display?

iPhone XR is a gorgeous device to use.

Because LCD can't be curved on the chin like OLED due to being thicker and having a backlight
main-qimg-544bcade22c9997f284a7240ec65c8bb

If you notice the XR has a chin like the other Android phones with a notch although Apple was smarter, instead of leaving the chin and the bezels on the sides and up super slim, they made the bezels the same size as the chin so it looks symmetrical.
Thank you!!! I think that’s the main reason.

Also the lightning port is not symmetrical to the speakers in the xr. It’s lower, closer to the back than the front. Again it’s to accommodate the display controller on the bottom.
