In a word, capacity. Also convenience. iPods integrate so easily with car stereos and other docking devices. At home, where I can really get the best audio, I don't use an ipod.
Do you have a suggestion?
I don't but go to an audiophile website and mention that you use an iPod with a stereo system that costs thousands of dollars and see what they will say about it.

It's just funny hearing people say they are so concerned about audio using an iPod.

If I didn't have a smartphone I'm not sure if I would need one. Maybe find an iPod Nano 5th Generation as that was the last good design of that line. I have under two thousand songs and only play music at home as I like to hear the world around me cleanly so using my phone or laptop tends to be enough.

I'm short of on the fence about the nano...

I would really like an iPod, the idea of having a seperate device with the music stored on the device, and not in the cloud.

I have about 35gb of music in my library. Alot of it I don't listen to, some songs i even hate. Still there is something about the 160gb classic and just be able to store it all. But that damn harddrive in these larger iPods die so easy! And it really sucks to have it break down when you need it the most. Out travelling with no Wifi....

Might end up getting the nano at some point, a 32gb+ model wouldn't hurt!

i think an iPod will always have some place in my gadgetry line up.

True, but for those of us who do "need" (or even want) a smartphone, our music is already in our pockets; no need to carry a second device.

I imagine the decline of the iPod is directly proportional to the rise of the iPhone.
