Perfectionist, with that level of paranoia I'm surprised you even let yourself on the internet. You know they're watching your every keystroke, don't ya? :D

That's what the guy at Airport Customs said when he asked me to drop my pants

I know ..... that's why I always type wearing gloves ..... they'll never prove it was me ..... muhahahaah ! :D

I know it's an old thread, but I just bought me one of these, and it works wonders. What a clever solution, and hell if I'm gonna have a camera pointed at me 5+ hours a day, LED or no LED.

i dont know if this ipatch would be fitted as standard maybe some would use it
not because they have paranoia , just because its there ,but i cant remember the last time the fbi or mi5 had hacked my computer to watch through my camera

just tape a mirror in front ot the cam and the hackers get a shock when they see themself

PC laptops.

Not Mac laptops. :)

Errr... the reports I read specified MacBooks.

"one of the students at the district says that they suspected this but the school tech support gave excuses. His Early 2008 MacBook's camera light would turn on at random"

{Oops... didn't notice ssdar had already pointed this out in his second point above.}

Oops, misread the school vs. district as being different.

However, the green light on the MacBooks illuminated when the camera was active. The light is hardwired.

Easy fix is a piece of tape.

What I do find funny, is how folks are worried about the webcam -- which has a narrow view -- and completely forget about audio which picks up all sound in an area.

What about the microphone?

What about the webcam microphone? If someone can hack my Mac's webcams (like the people did to those Pennsylvania school children's Macbooks), what about the Mac's microphone?

I can see how a piece of tape could block the images from the webcam (as ugly as it might be on a computer for which I paid a substantial premium, at least in part, for its looks). But what about the audio. No simple piece of tape is going to block the audio. I guess that turning the computer off between uses is a solution. Lot's less convenient than a simple switch to turn off the webcam and microphone (my wife's old HP laptop had a switch like that).

Looks like most people here haven't had their iSight camera turn on while visiting 9/11 forums.

All I have to say is: wait until the first time it happens.... then you'll get your little iPatch / piece of tape / etc.

My little green light (macbook) turned on and wouldnt turn off even when restarting the computer. Finally I downloaded the iSight disabler script; and I also use a little piece of tape.

:)

But yea.... I guess you can make whatever jokes you want until you get spied on. Then you'll be cutting little bits of tape and telling your friends (who wont believe you). LOL

Audio is a good point too though. There is probably some kind of mic disabler. Not a big issue for me but I can see why some people would want it.

I heard Skype can be used as some kind of backdoor. Not sure though.

Always good to know whats happening with your computer.:)

Don't worry folks. No one is going to spy on you while you play a little "5 on 1" while watching free porn.
