I'm not going to flame anybody, and I didn't respond to your first rude remark. Just the illogic of your follow up.

i didnt accuse you of anything, and I also can't see how insulting an inanimate object is in any way rude, its not like i said 'pc users are so dumb' (dont take that out of context)

Owning an apple mac is basically the greatest sign of you having succeeded in life, them being so expensive and unbearably cool ...

Many of us use our Macs simply because they are the best tool for the job... sometimes a slightly more expensive tool is still the best value.

I believer the statement quoted above is full of negative stereotypes. If you had added a "In my opinion" or "In my experience" to that statement, then that's fine. You are entitled to your opinion - and you have expressed it as an opinion. But in this case you offered the statement as fact, and the statement is saying that it is a fact that all Mac owners buy their systems based on "coolness" and not on actual value.

I merely agreed with you when you belatedly added the "in my experience".... though I suppose I also may have, kinda, added a snarky comment as well. I'll take that out if you want me to.

dont worry, it was a stupid comment of mine to make (I'm sick and it was midnight, cut me some slack ;) ) but i was just slightly perturbed by the angry comments

I'm a longtime PC guy, who uses macs at work everyday.
My decision to get a 2011 i7 mini server, was because there is no comparable PC with that I can get in such a compact package, with the same specs for that price.
And I can ado run windows on it with boot amp.

And Apple shifted its models quite a bit. Back in the days you had a much cheaper G4 workstation at entry level iMac prizes. With the G5 and MacPro it became some sort of uber-pro-station. Since the Mini got much more powerfull in the latest Sandy incarnations, for many it is more like the successor to the old G4 towers than the Mac Pro. It is a perfect workstation for the graphics industry that has always been loyal to mac. You can hook a real decent display on it (not the blinhy dust-loosing, decolorating built in iMac crap), say NEC 271PA, and you have a perfect deal as media-pro.
I think they can even sell it for more. If it becomes quad in the next incarnation, they can add 100$ easily.

For the price of a mini and then to buy a screen aren't you better off getting a iMac?

Initially, maybe.

The down side is that you are stuck with the glossy screen that is not to everyone's liking (where I sit matt is definitely better). Other peripherals may also suit your needs better than what comes with the iMac.

Sure the screen, speakers, mouse, keyboard etc add to the cost if you are buying the lot outright, but they will probably outlast the computer. I still have the speakers and LCD screen I bought in 2005. I have changed the keyboard (for the small Apple wired version) and the mouse (wired Logitech).

I replaced my original Mini in early 2009. Having just added an extra 4 GB of RAM and installed Mountain Lion, I guess it will be good for a few more years. I'll be moving on early next year, to another country. The Mini and the keyboard will come with me; the rest I will purchase anew.

With the Mini costing less than a week's pay for more than 60% of respondents, it seems churlish to suggest it is too expensive for most. For me it was more than a month's pay. While I could have had a windows PC for much less, I didn't want the hassle. For me it seemed fair value.
