What is taking Apple so long? Typically they release the Combo Updater for a newer version of the OS within a day of the initial release. It's been 2 days, and nothing.

I had the same issue when I was trying to use Safari. I had to quit Safari and then execute it again. After that I was able to see the 10.15.5 combo update on the Apple Downloads.

Glad you found it. I used it for the upgrade and all went flawlessly. What isn't out yet is the full installer from the App Store. It is still sitting at 10.15.4. Very frustrated as I want to make an USB installer as I like having that for the "just in case" event.

Try with
Code:
open "x-apple.systempreferences:com.apple.preferences.softwareupdate?installMajorOSVersion=10.15.5"

Thanks, but doesn't seem to work. I dropped it in Terminal and nothing changed in the software update in Sys Prefs?

The Mac App Store still shows 10.15.4 version of Catalina. Is that not the case?
I believe if you used dosdude1 Catalina Patcher it downloads 15.5 anyway:

I would like to know this, too.
Usually App Store version gets updated on the same day of release or within a day or two from release day. However, App Store version still shows 10.15.4
The reason I am waiting for the App Store version is to create a bootable USB drive with 10.15.5 intact for format & clean install.

Again, appreciate assistance from joelhinch. Two things are somewhat troublesome, though:

1. In the past, I have done a google search of "OS 10.x.x Combo" or "OS 10.x.x Combo Update" either the same day the new version came out, or the next day, and it would appear as one of the "hits". But for OS 10.15.5, that did not happen at all for 2 days (I just did it again, and this time it does appear).

2. The installation of this Combo Updater is definitely the longest one I have ever encountered. As it was progressing, I actually thought to myself that maybe it would be almost as fast to download the full version of OS 10.15.5, do a clean, fresh installation, and then migrate/copy needed files, folders, apps, settings, etc. from my most recent SuperDuper! backup.

@honestone33 you may want to check here before assuming Superduper will still work as a bootable drive. 10.15.5 created issues for making bootable backups with CCC and assuming its also Superduper. Here is an blog explaining that the changes in 10.15.5 make new bootable backups not possible with existing software.....more work arounds required in those products.

Dam, you're right! Earlier today, I went through my normal cleanup/maintenance/backup procedures, and when I just tried to boot my Mac Mini from my earlier created SuperDuper! backup, sure enough, it does not work! Why does Appel have to pull this kind of crap?

So, I guess I need to create a bootable flash drive containing OS 10.15.4, do a clean install, and then a migration/copying of needed items from that backup I created earlier. Don't like not having a bootable backup, and not sure how long it will take Shirt Pocket software to come out with a fix.

I cannot speak for Superduper but for CCC it has been sorted out with the latest update. https://bombich.com/blog/2020/05/27...impacts-bootable-backups-weve-got-you-covered

Putting my frustrations aside in trying to create a bootable OS 10.15.4 Flash Drive, the primary advantage of a Combo Updater is that it will apply ALL the updates to whatever version of the OS you are updating. In the case of Catalina, if you, say, are running OS 10.15.3, you can apply the OS 10.15.5 Combo Updater to update OS 10.15.3 to OS 10.15.5, and it will contain ALL the updates. That is, it will apply the updates for OS 10.15.4 as well as OS 10.15.5.

Well, even though I was able to create an OS 10.15.4 bootable installer on a flash drive, the total process did not work! Fortunately I did not erase my internal SSD first, but when the installer got going, it seemed fine. But when it got to "2 minutes left", it just stalled! It would do nothing. Fortunately I was able to get back to my OS 10.15.5 environment.

Shirt Pocket software has not come out with an update yet to SuperDuper!, but I am taking somewhat of a risk, as my backups were created using my OS 10.15.5 system, and thus are not bootable. I did send an EMail to David Nanlan at Shirt Pocket Support about a 1/2 hour ago, asking when an update will be issued. He is typically very good at replying somewhat "fast", so I expect to hear from him by tomorrow.

Still baffled, though, as to why the OS 10.15.4 did not work. I almost tempted to try it on my Mac Book Air, given that I use my Mac Mini about 95% of the time.

Thank you for that, it downloaded Install macOS Catalina. Still not sure why the MAS still only shows 10.15.4.
