I have read a few of the reviews out there and there is a theme of people being very divded on it in two different factions, but really it is three: the regular joe (whom they claim will buy this now) and the techy (whom they claim won't buy it now, but is mostly true). The people who are actually buying it right now is the Apple fan. The kind of guy who can tell you how a I7 chip works but when it comes to iPad uses the word "magical" at least once when describing it. To each their own because I noticed a few people having second thoughts in buying it. Don't worry, that is just millions of dollars of marketing, product placement and reviews that not dare defy Apple. Anyways this is for you:
A few reasons. The first and most obvious reason is that as of now it is nothing more than a giant iPod touch. There is literally very little to nothing an iPhone can do that an iPad can. With that said it has a pretty decent processor that will be able to handle more complicated content than the current iPhones can.
No multitasking. Something that even a "regular" person is likely to expect on something more computer like in form, multitasking is a natural must have now and is something that we can likely expect to be fixed for both iPhone and iPad later this year.
No camera. It cost what? $10 to put a camera into something? If they did this, of course they likely will for iPhone as well, but the difference of the screen will make it a more interesting experience, and of better quality. I would expect as early as the end of this year or next year this will be fixed.
Price. $130 extra for 3G when you can get a USB 3G dongle for $50 and pay $50 a month as opposed to $30 a month and $130. Really in the long run if you use that one iPad long enough you could save a little but chances are most people will have switched to a new one. The cheapest iPad has a meager amount of memory and cost $500. For $500 you can buy a new HDTV, a PlayStation 3 with a controler and a game, or for $500 more you could just get a Macbook which differences are weight and form factor. Apple famously released the iPhone for quite a bit of cheddar as well only months later dropping the price down to $300, then within less than a year $200 for something newer, and $100 for the older version after 2 years. Of course those prices are subsidized, but within 2 years time you had iPods with a similar situation.
Right now the only person needing to buy this then is the complete Apple faithful that love destroying their credit so something only they give a **** about on their block can be their pride and joy. Meanwhile, I suspect by this time next year we will be seeing prices of $300.
Connectivity. Apple makes you buy an extra SD and USB dongle for $30 a piece. Granted not much if you paid $500+ for the thing but wait you just paid $500+ for the thing can't you at least get a SD slot? Something else I suspect to be remedied within a year.
A real purpose. The iPad has no real purpose just yet. The whole books thing will help, but its not a game changer everyone thought it would be. I keep hearing it is more personal, and I have my own ideas of how well it could work, and would be a nice thing to have even right now, but this is something that will take time. A remote desktop application for mac literally letting you control every aspect of your computer has been created and looks and works great, that is a step in the right direction, I guess it is up to apps like that, Netflix, and other things to give more compelling reasons to buy in the months to follow.

Since they are pumping a million of anything out at a time now, of course more mistakes happen in the beginning of processing only natual, so dead pixels, brown screens, stuff over heating etc will cause you a lot of headache.
