Any thoughts on .mac integration? It sure would be nice to have .mac mail pushed to the IPhone.

They must do! surely apple will make sure .mac is push, they may have a chance to sell .mac copies if this was the case.

They prob. aren't using Gmail becuase ir's still in beta.
Gmail has been in beta for ages, and to be honest I've never had any problems, I don't think they can use that as an excuse.

I think people are a little confused here.

Gmail, and most other email will work on an iPhone using IMAP or POP3. If your email provider doesn't offer those, web based is your only other option.

However, if you use Yahoo you will get the option of PUSH email. That means, as soon as the server knows you have the message, your phone will. Its much more real time then IMAP or POP3. IMAP and POP3 both check the server every x minutes. So, emails might be delayed by 5 minutes or so.

For most people, its not a problem they won't notice a different. Its business customers that will want to use PUSH email. Personally, I am going to have a separate corporate email account that acts as a forwarder to a Yahoo account. This way, I get the benefits of both and I can have people send the really important stuff to the Yahoo forwarder.

I agree though, I wish Gmail had PUSH email. Well, crap ... I wish my corporate email was PUSH as well :D

IMAP supports push email via Push-IMAP, so it's incorrect to say that "push is faster than IMAP". You can set a POP client to check email every minute which will remove any delay perception for most people (it will also increase your data flow marginally, but we're looking at unlimited data plans with iPhone anyway).

The bigger advantage of IMAP for me is that all your folders get synced to the server, so you can see your folders, Sent items, etc. wherever you check your IMAP email form.

Setting your refresh time really low is a great way to kill the battery fast. Push IMAP will be faster then normal IMAP installs because the server tells the client when something is new, rather then the client asking all day if something is new. In theory, PUSH email will also save your battery a little bit.

Let's say I prefer to get email via WiFi (possible expense)... would it be cheaper for me to pull my email when I'm connected to a hot sport instead of using AT&T's network?

Could someone explain how this will sync with the mail app in OSX? I want to make sure my inbox is the same on both my desktop and iPhone (i.e. what happens on one shows on the other)!!
