I don't know how relevant to this thread my Wifi issue is, but very strangely my (Late 2014 MBA) disconnects the closer I get to my modem. If I'm on another floor, with several walls between it's fine, but when in the same room it won't connect and I have to re-boot when I move again. The Modem is a TP-Link. I'm about to change to an MBP and I'll see if it's the same.

I should have said this is with Yosemite, not El Capitan.

Issue: WiFi does not auto-reconnect on wake.

I'm not sure whether it's a software or a hardware issue, but it has persisted on my 2014 and 2015 MBPs running Yosemite, and still does in El Capitan. Mind you, my mid-2011 MBA has no such issue. It auto-reconnects just fine. What gives?

I was really hoping that El Capitan would fix it, even though it's still in beta.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I have no auto-reconnect issue but facing extremely slow wifi connection. Is there anyone facing the same?

You might want to try removing the entires for your wifi networks from Keychain Access. I've had issues where OS X would prompt me for a password for networks even though it was already in Keychain. Removing the entires and logging in one more time resolved the issue.

I have a 2015 13in mbpr with wifi issues out of the box. Installed El Capitan without any changes. Multiple routers and different wifi connections without any luck. Just as I was about to take my mac to the Apple Store, I downgraded my mac back to Yosemite but 10.10.4 was just released apparently with a wifi patch ditching discoveryd. My wifi issues are gone now. I'm hoping w/ the next El Capitan update discoveryd will be tossed too and I can update to the beta again.

As somebody who troubleshoots network outages as a career, all I can really say at a high level is that you might want to use the "binary search" / "divide and conquer" principle of figuring out what's wrong. For example, start with your Mac and your router as the two potential sources of the issue and isolate it to either one or the other. Bringing the Macbook to a place with a public WiFi hotspot might be the most logical first step because you rule out pretty much anything external to your Mac — your home router, any other home network equipment, and your ISP's infrastructure. Then all I can say is go from there. Bear in mind, many of you may be reporting the same high-level behaviors for very different underlying reasons and there will be no "one size fits all" solution.

Below, I am amassing all the potential causes I can think of:

- Misconfiguration on the Mac or some setting inherited from a previous OS install
- A software bug in OS X
- Failure of a hardware component on the Mac (possibly unlikely)
- Misconfiguration on the router
- A firmware bug on the router
- Failure of a hardware component on the router (possibly unlikely)
- An issue at the ISP

Those are just some starting points. They're very vague, but that's intentional. You need to use a little judgement. For example, if you can wake your Mac from sleep and can get a ping response from the router but not out to the internet (e.g.: 8.8.8.8, Google's DNS server) then it's very safe to say the issue is at the router, ISP, or intermediate equipment.

Also bear in mind that on a typical home router, the ISP gives you just one IP address and the router will use something called "PAT" (port address translation) where it uses a combination of your public IP and a port number to figure out what devices on your LAN side network will receive the packet. If you know how to play around with this, you may want to disable it and have only your Mac on the router network to see if it makes a difference. If worst comes to worst, also try doing a factory reset of the router and seeing if the manufacturer offers any firmware upgrades.

Hmm strange, I never had any WiFi issues with several Macs, iPhones and Routers SINCE the first Beta of OS X 10.9 and iOS 7. I had very much issues before that with OS X 10.8 and iOS 6.

I've noticed slow downs on my internet since El Capitan. I'm not sure what the issue is, but it's starting to bug me..

I actually need to do it anyway, I've just been putting it off. I need it for some Windows only utilities to use with some switches, check-in software, and a few sites that require IE and ActiveX. I could use Parallels but I like running it natively.

I've tried a few of them and it hasn't made a difference. Speaking of Bluetooth, Yosemite has some crazy Bluetooth issues as well. Multiple Mac Pros (2009-2010) my previous 2012 Mac Mini, and MBPs (2012, 2013, and 2014) have super laggy mice or disconnect issues with Yosemite that completely disappear when rolled back to Mavericks. But that's for another day. My MBA is fine though :)

I do remember moving Bluetooth and even Thunderbolt stuff in the network profile a while ago on one of the Macs here. It fixed it temporarily but issues came back till I put Mavericks back on it. Go figure. Not that Mavericks didn't have issues itself for a long time but I keep it on our mission critical Macs still for running sound, lights, and the set. I'm hoping to move to El Capitan after the first point release campus wide if possible.

And I think the WiFi was actually fine when I El Capitan it on a second partition on this same MBA for a couple days playing with it... May be worth investigating.

How did installing Windows and testing go? Does Windows have the same problem with WiFi?

I had this issue at my university flat with a Virgin media branded router, but I've never had this at home with a Linksys router. However I never had any issues with any of my other devices staying connected - so it suggests to me that it's some bug in OS X. I never could figure out what the problem was.

There are a lot of issues with the Virgin routers working well on Macs, mainly because the default wireless encryption on VM router is set to WPA-Auto. Changing this to WPA2-PSK only normally resolves the issue :)

I too am experiencing the incredibly
Slow wi-fi. I have a MBPr Mid 2012 and the wi-fi is unusable. Upload speed seems ok but download is less than 100K. I've discovered it's a conflict with Bluetooth. Turn Bluetooth off and it's absolutely fine. I've logged several reports with Apple through the Feedback App.

I have the slow Wi-Fi issue on my Late 2012 iMac (El Capitan) - i5 2.9 GHz. I've disconnected Bluetooth, reset PRAM and SMC, reset and rebooted my router. Wi-Fi speed from my router is down 92% since Thursday. Also installed El Capitan supplemental update from Friday. No improvement.
