it'll be clear when we see them in person. I think the big logo on the back is actually much bigger and maybe having a tiny logo on the front would have made things uneven. We also still haven't seen the bigger models and maybe the chin will be smaller relative to the size of the screen.

The ID team has 20yr+ of experience making the most beautiful computers in the industry so I'll trust their judgment any day. Some on the team that worked on the new Mac were probably also behind the original decision to add the logo in the first place. It had it's time.

Complaining about a missing logo on the front seems odd.

This seems like you’re concerned about whether other people know it’s an Apple machine.

No logo - don’t like this design
Logo - Everybody can tell it’s an Apple so it’s good.

Yes agreed - the logo issue means people are vain or insecure and they must have it "displayed" to the world to see....

I sit in front of a 27-inch iMac for hours a day and I can't honestly say I notice much whether there's a logo anywhere on it. I don't really look at anything other than the screen, because strangely enough, that's where my works is. Now I look at it, I think the logo is way too big and adds absolutely zero to the appearance, value or esteem of the system.

I find it amazing that people care, but fair enough, some seemingly do. But hey, stop making up total nonsense such as that the metal is maybe too thin to put a logo on it, or that if Jonny Ive had designed it, there would have been a logo. This is just cloud cuckoo-land. There's no logo because Apple's designers didn't want there to be one.

Why? I have no idea other than from the product announcement video, but they didn't, and I think I prefer it that way. Clean, simple, uncluttered. As a user, I'm pretty sure I'll know it's an Apple product, and whether any of my colleagues do or not is not much concern to me at all.

Since the front panel is all-glass, I'm sure anyone who really wants to can have a logo etched onto it. In a month, it's quite possible you'll be able to get a DIY etching kit on Amazon. If not, it'll show there actually wasn't the great demand for a logo we're being led to believe there is.

I don't see what issue they would have putting a logo on the front. Especially since the front is a solid piece of glass, surely they could etch it into the glass like they do with iPhones? I would imagine it was part of a push to be a little bit more 'minimal' than the previous generations of iMacs.

Perhaps they could of gone the iMac G3 route and just had the words 'iMac' on the front instead. If I remember correctly my iMac G5 didn't have the Apple logo on the rear and instead had the words 'iMac'. I personally thought that was pretty cool.

Once again bing image search comes to the rescue (yeah, I'm that guy, don't judge me!)

Look at all those beautiful antiquated ports! Also a sh** design compared to the G4 iMac

I don't watch the show anymore, but it so reminds me of the scene after Ben shaves his beard on The Conners (formerly known as Roseanne). Both in their reaction and because their reaction contains some truth.

Basically saying it just doesn't look right without it.

Yes, agreed!

Why people obsess over logos, bezel colors, and screen size are so vain.

I buy computers for what they do - it's a tool.

Just like a fire extinguisher or firearm = emergency rescue tools....
The conversation is about aesthetics and preferences, not obsession. Also, I don't see how vanity could have any role in this.

There are various aspects to every item you own: utility, reliability, aesthetics, etc. You are just saying that aesthetics are not important to you. Many people share that point of view; many people don't. I would not let aesthetics dictate a purchase decision, but it does affect my overall satisfaction with the purchase.

Apple spends a ton of money fine tuning their brand image and supporting that image with their products; which includes the aesthetics of their products. This image is such a large part of Apple that it certainly is a reasonable topic of discussion in an Apple forum.

Many people have said that it just doesn't matter what the computer looks like. I'd be interested to see what your home looks like. The computer that sits on your desk can affect you in the same way as the art on your walls. If you really don't care what a computer looks like, why chime in on a discussion about it?

I have no art on my walls. Every wall in my house is plain white.

A bunch of mathematicians are at a dinner party, having a heated argument about what should be considered important areas of research. Some people crash the party yelling "Hey, we all got F's in math. Stop this nonsense discussion and let's eat!"

Mostly perhaps because otherwise there wouldn't be a discussion.

In any event, 'not caring what a computer looks like' does not preclude having an opinion on what other people do care about.

I have to think about that some. I think most comments in this thread are relevant. Comments like "it's just a tool, it doesn't matter what it looks like" seem different. My post was a reaction to the post calling people vain; I found it personally insulting.

There are comments that relate to the topic and then are comments about the conversation as a whole. It might not be so black and white which are which, but some clearly fall into the latter category.

Oh I don’t think it’s vain.

There’s nothing wrong with buying stuff you think looks nice. You have to enjoy what you own after all. My point was the complaints about the logo.

Surely you either like the design or you don’t. If the logo on the front factors into that, in my opinion that stretches into brand snobbery.

OK, I'll respect your opinion.

The logo and its placement for me, and for Apple, is a big part of the design, and it's not just brand association. But, I also feel good about Apple as a company and enjoy the reminder that I'm working with one of their products. You cast that generally in a negative light.

Looking at many things in my house, there are memories or associations that bring more joy than just the object by itself would bring. The Apple logo is just another example. I'm reminded of my Apple IIe with its colored logo, and all the other Apple's I've had since with their include Apple stickers.

I think there might be unjustified appreciation of Apple as a company and that could be termed snobbery. But, I'll give people the benefit of the doubt there.

I just looked at my MacBook, the one I'm typing this on, and there is no Apple icon in sight. I know there is one on the case, but that MacBook is always opened, so the icon is never visible. Not missing it.
Same for my iPhone, iPad, all the iPods I ever owned, my MacBooks, and the TV. Never owned a Mac mini, but I have to imagine that people aren’t staring at the box itself.

An Apple logo wasn't even on the front of every iMac, let alone minis, and the portables/mobile devices, so it does make you wonder what all the fuss is about.

That an Apple logo can be found somewhere on every Apple product is probably true (I haven't checked every one, personally) but there is one on the new iMac too, so for consistency, Apple score 100% in my book.

Oh absolutely. I can’t think of anything since at least 1998 that hasn’t had an Apple logo on it somewhere if it was made by Apple. Even something as simple as iPod Socks has a logo on the tag.

After the Pro Display XDR, it really shouldn’t surprise anyone that Apple was willing to remove the front facing logo from the iMac (despite the bezel being more than big enough for a logo). It aligns with the rest of the design language.

If a cutting edge display that starts at $6,000 doesn’t have an Apple logo, a cutting edge entry level ($1,300-2,000) AiO isn’t gonna get an Apple logo.

I’m glad they left it off the front. It looks tacky and cliche. You already know it is an Apple product just by virtue of not looking like a poorly designed pos PC. The logo is now implied.

Half-eaten fruit spoils quickly. Leave that nasty stuff off my computer.

Sadly it looks like a like a poorly designed pos PC. The 3.5mm jack I use for my external speakers goes in the side and since that wont be colour coded it will look awful, the Ethernet goes in the power supply which is just weird, hope there is no REIN issues because of its placement. All because its so damn thin yet again. The off white boarder that will catch my attention I think more than black because it may look bad after a year or two of UV hitting it, and light colours I think detract from the screen anyway. Then the of lack of ports and the need for dongles has just ruined this model for me.

I'm just hoping the bigger one is better, because having a computer I can put my own ram in is still important, Honestly I may have to go back to a windows tower PC I can upgrade and get more for my money and which has a much longer life span than a Apple AIO. I have had enough of Apples soldered in hell and the need need for every iMac to look like a ipad now, or is it the other way round? After all they all have the same chip so choice is now all about aesthetics and pastel colours and not hardware. The new Fisher iPrice has arrived and I think it is is damn ugly and form over function overkill, but all our mileage varies on perception of course.
