When Steve jobs shows off lion it's going to be on the new mac book air ... And he'll be like oh yea folks one more thing ... This notebook is the new mac book air if you haven't noticed it already.

Nope, the next MBA refresh is going to be a silent update.

When is a likely update for the MacBook Air? June? July? August?

I am hoping for this spec MacBook Air:

11" - $999 Base model
Core i5 ULV Procesor
4 GBs of RAM standard
Intel GMA 3000 HD
64 GB SSD
7 Hour Battery Life

13" $1299 Base model
Core i7 ULV Processor
4 GBs of RAM standard
Intel GMA 3000 HD
128 GB SSD
9 Hour Battery Life

Basically nothing extremely overwhelming - I don't think the SSD size is going to increase for the price because SSD prices haven't dropped all that much. But I can definitely see an increase of battery life.

this is what I'm hoping for. If the intel gfx can drive my 24" monitor for non gaming needs equal to or better than the current 320m and battery improves due to lack of desecrate gfx il be a happy camper.

I don't think that they will ever put a sim slot in the air. Apple will focus on personal hotspots from iphone instead (it does the same thing right?). Once the 4g phone is launched, your macbook air internet speeds will be faster than any internal sim card slot.:)

From Core 2 Duo processors to Sandy Bridge ix processors... I wouldn't call that a small jump. We're talking 2-3 times more powerful processors, even if the IGP paired alongside it blows. Sad to see the nVidia graphics go away, but definitely not sad to see Core 2 Duo fade away! Hopefully within the next week I'll get my hands on one.... :D

according to these benchmarks the intel hd 3000 is as good if not better than the nvidia 320M. i'm not too worried.

Prices are dropping

Just something I noticed this past week. At Best Buy, all the MBA's are on sale, about $50 to $100 off retail. Normally Best Buy rarely puts anything Apple-branded on sale unless a newer version is forthcoming.

Also, the refurbished MBAs at the Apple Online Store have dropped their prices significantly (in terms of Apple dropping prices). Maxed-out refurbs are $100-$150 less than they were a week ago.

It sounds to me like Apple is trying to clear out all their inventory (new and refurb).

Just my 2 cents (jingles pocket)

I'm not worried either, I just hate that Intel used its might to bully nVidia out of the chipset market. Choice for manufacturers to choose from would have been much more pleasant than the legal rancor of a scared processor giant. I'll still buy the Air when it comes out, I just won't be thrilled by the HD 3000. I still remember well the GMA 950 that couldn't do as much as i thought it could back in 2006. As they say, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I hope that I won't be shamed ;)

Maybe because most of us kinda know what's it going to be like: SB CPU w/ HD 3000, TB port, same SSD capacities, same prices... I guess that's it basically.
The RAM will most probably still be 2 GB by default since the MBPs are still 4 GB.

Not much to say about it, that's all.

I'm in the camp waiting for the refresh. Was hoping it would happen in a week or two to coincide with the Back to School promo.

I'd love to see the backlit keyboard return and some glass protecting the display, but I'm not optimistic because those two things consume more power and make it heavier, respectively.

Sorry, but I just want the option for a 256 GB drive in the 11" MBA. It's not like I'm not willing to pay a bit more.

And I see an increase in battery life for the 11", but not much. I'm not sure about the 13". I don't think it it's change much.

Doesn't get talked about much but I'm almost certain it will have a Facetime HD camera, ie. higher-res webcam in it.
