... and a hell of a lot faster. And BTW, apple laptops had spinning drives for decades without too much problems, so they could have used fusion drives in the their laptops 2012-onward if they wanted to.

Apple switched to flash drives in the laptops because they could use blade SSD which allowed Apple to accomplish what they wanted in thinness. The desktop computers, can still use thicker storage solutions like spinning hard drives. One is a design goal the other is not.
