Is anyone else really mad that UPS is shipping them instead of Fed Ex? I was so excited when I thought Fed Ex was delivering them because Fed Ex always delivers in my neighborhood before noon. UPS, on the other hand, doesn't deliver until 6pm on weekdays. I guess my town is the last stop on the same driver's route that always delivers my stuff. I am praying it'll be different on Saturdays.

Does anyone know where on UPS.com to find out if UPS in your city delivers on Saturday? I had already checked FedEx.com before everyone found out that UPS was shipping them and FedEx delivers on Saturday here (I live in Cincinnati, OH btw).

More than likely they will. I live in a small town in Florida and UPS delivers on Saturdays here. Cincinnati is a big populated area isn't it?

Yea its fairly big. I live in a small city about 10 miles North of downtown Cincinnati. Its not considered City of Cincinnati but UPS of Cincinnati would be the one delivering it.

1) It's a lot of boxes and I'm guessing FedEx alone doesn't have the staff to deliver that many packages on Sat. I'd bet we will see FedEx enter into the mix soon.

2) If the iPad distro is anything like the 3GS, some iPads are already in US warehouses. Those iPads will be delivered by UPS while the ones that ship direct from China will be delivered by FedEx.

Does Apple ALWAYS use one carrier only for launches?

It seems evident to me that not too many people have gotten their tracking info yet (I think there'd be a bigger flood of posts and thread bumps). Is it still possible some people will get FedEx?

And what about on weekends?

I don't recall if I ever had a package come from UPS on a Saturday. That's why I'm freaking out wondering if my UPS does Saturday delivery. I guess I'll call UPS Customer Support and ask if they do Saturday delivery here.

I live south of Cincinnati (NKY) and I fully expect that UPS will be dropping off the iPad on Saturday. :p Mine at least. :D

To OP - UPS Saturday reach is HUGE. You would really have to be in the middle of nowhere to not have Saturday delivery.

Finally, Saturday deliveries would typically be earlier than other days of the week, so stay hopeful! :)

All my Saturday deliveries from Amazon are UPS (Raleigh, NC). And the guy arrives around 10am, so I'm STOKED to have 2 days of iPad before I get mobbed at work.

I have a friend in Ohio that just told me the same thing - they don't have Saturday and i'd guess she is about 10 miles north of Cleveland!

Wrong.

Ours is coming from China - and is coming UPS.

I've never in my life seen a UPS->Fedex handoff.... it just isn't going to happen.

I'm as fanatical as the next guy about getting mine, but are we seriously getting all freaked out about what carrier they are using now? Really?

Yeah, never said there would be a UPS to FedEx handoff. I said IF the iPad distro was like the 3GS distro THEN FedEx would handle the shipments from China. Clearly Apple is using UPS for China shipments, so its different from 3GS. Also that does not yet preclude that Apple won't also use FedEx for China deliveries too.

First - Apple said they would deliver on the 3rd. And it looks like they will be. They never said they would get it to you before 10am.

And correct me if I'm wrong - but the shipping is free. So stop griping just for the sake of griping. If you wanted expedited or some other shipping method - pony up and pay for it.

Finally - Why UPS? Obviously Apple was able to negotiate the better rate with UPS over FedEx for the launch. It's not a hard concept. Especially since - again - they aren't charging you for shipping.

Find something better to complain about. My .02

Yes, it is entirely legitimate getting freaked out because of the carrier if one of them delivers on Saturday and the other doesn't. That is a pretty big issue. They promised they'd be delivered on 4/3 so they better picked the carrier that does Saturday deliveries.

If they would have given me the option to pay to have Fed Ex deliver it, I would have gladly done it. Fed Ex is a better company than UPS. Don't act all high and mighty like you know everything.

early

One of the reasons that UPS is often in the afternoon for most RESIDENTIAL deliveries is that the prioritize the BUSINESS address deliveries. On a Saturday, it is mostly all residential, so they should be much eariler than ones normal UPS time.

I often have my Saturday UPS before I have the coffee made

Calm down people.

In the past it has happened when Apple will use other carriers to make sure deliveries are made on promised day.

So far we've seen UPS only. Others who ordered before or at the same time are still waiting for tracking notices. I'm betting those will ship FedEx as originally promised.

Apple has used DHL before too, they will make sure you have your item on 4/3. Though it is unknown why some get UPS and others won't.

To me, it really doesn't make a difference as long as the packages are delivered on time and without damage.

I may be getting worried over nothing but since my order still says "Not yet shipped" and people are getting tracking info already I'm starting to lose it.

What about the people who actually paid for 2 day shipping? Is yours via UPS as well?

Hah! Suckered. There is no advantage to 2 day shipping. Why do it? You are guaranteed 4/3 delivery if Sat delivery is available. Standard shipping was free. 2 day shipping will not make it any faster. Makes no sense especially if you preordered 3 weeks in advanced like most of us.

Just the opposite for me. FedEx has always been awful in my experience, whereas I have had good service with UPS. I had a UPS driver who dropped off a package and my then very pregnant wife answered the door. A week or so later, a box with a camcorder in it was being delivered (I think something on the outside of the box said it was a camera of some sort). We missed the delivery and he doubled back around, without being asked, after 6pm "just in case we needed the camera quickly for the delivery".

I hope my iPad comes UPS.

I think the 2 Day shipping is for all other things ordered at the time. Like your accessories.

at our facility UPS is the only carrier that consistently has problems with missing merch or damaged in transit claims. I try and avoid UPS whenever possible.
