I have a friend in Ohio that just told me the same thing - they don't have Saturday and i'd guess she is about 10 miles north of Cleveland!

10 miles north of Cleveland would be nearly half-way to Canada in the middle of Lake Erie. It's not surprising that UPS doesn't deliver there on Saturdays. :)

10 miles North of Cleveland is Canada. :p

Yes, it is entirely legitimate getting freaked out because of the carrier if one of them delivers on Saturday and the other doesn't. That is a pretty big issue. They promised they'd be delivered on 4/3 so they better picked the carrier that does Saturday deliveries.

They never promised they would get it to you on 4/3. There was a clear note that said if you get Saturday deliveries. Apple cannot be held responsible for what carrier will deliver on what day to your house. The only guaranteed Saturday delivery company that I know of is the USPS.

Personally, I prefer UPS. Fed Ex is very unreliable where I live. My neighbor always get my packages. Even when I am on my front porch waiving for the guy.

Over the years I have had the same UPS driver and we know each other enough that if we see each other at a store or restaurant we will say hi to one another. My Fed Ex guy is ALWAYS different.

at our facility UPS is the only carrier that consistently has problems with missing merch or damaged in transit claims. I try and avoid UPS whenever possible.

I've had the opposite... When I managed a Radio Shack our orders from FedEx were commonly short a box or two and would arrive a day later or even would arrive at the wrong store. UPS was always on time for us. We even had a FedEx truck catch fire and lost half our shipment.

I believe it comes down to the area you live in and the quality of the workers there.

I don't have one ordered for delivery, but do you think UPS might hand off to USPS, I have had that happen a number of times for things.

My experiences with UPSucks and Fed Ex are the exact opposite of yours. You should have no problem this Saturday. Wish I could say the same for me

I can care less who brings it, but definately depends on where you are at....I live in Memphis and this is Fed ex's home so they are most reliable here....but if it comes UPS, then I will gladly accept the delivery!

Nah, that would be UPS Innovations (think I got that name right) and that's not the service used here. It's International Worldwide Service.

Not sure why some of you are saying UPS doesn't deliver on Saturdays. They do deliver on Saturdays but it is an extra charge. More then likely Apple has worked something out with them and footed the bill for Sat delivery thus also keeping UPS' regular workweek loads from being affected.

Yep I avoid them (when receiving packages) like the plague :p

I have not pre-ordered so I don't know what information was given to you folks when you did but when I worked at UPS, around 10 years ago, the shipper had to specifically pay for Saturday delivery otherwise the item would arrive the following business day.

Just the opposite for me. FedEx has always been awful in my experience, whereas I have had good service with UPS. I had a UPS driver who dropped off a package and my then very pregnant wife answered the door. A week or so later, a box with a camcorder in it was being delivered (I think something on the outside of the box said it was a camera of some sort). We missed the delivery and he doubled back around, without being asked, after 6pm "just in case we needed the camera quickly for the delivery".

I hope my iPad comes UPS.

Well you got your wish . . . good news for you and bad news for me :(

I may be getting worried over nothing but since my order still says "Not yet shipped" and people are getting tracking info already I'm starting to lose it.

Don't worry . . .you'll get tracking info too . . . really :)

Calm down people.

In the past it has happened when Apple will use other carriers to make sure deliveries are made on promised day.

So far we've seen UPS only. Others who ordered before or at the same time are still waiting for tracking notices. I'm betting those will ship FedEx as originally promised.

Apple has used DHL before too, they will make sure you have your item on 4/3. Though it is unknown why some get UPS and others won't.

On Fed Ex deliveries being promised ? ? ? Source?

If they would have given me the option to pay to have Fed Ex deliver it, I would have gladly done it. Fed Ex is a better company than UPS. Don't act all high and mighty like you know everything.

Same here . . . had I known they were using UPS, I would have PAID and opted for Fed Ex delivery ;)

I'm as fanatical as the next guy about getting mine, but are we seriously getting all freaked out about what carrier they are using now? Really?

YEP because it's been my personal experience that one of those companies is unreliable (UPS) and the other is (Fed Ex). So, the carrier used IS a big deal

I live south of Cincinnati (NKY) and I fully expect that UPS will be dropping off the iPad on Saturday. :p Mine at least. :D

I live 50 miles north of Cincinnati and I suspect I'll have to chase my iPad down and hi jack the brown truck :p

So is there a way to find out if Saturday delivery is available where you live? Or should the estimated delivery date update soon and indicate when you will get delivery?

Is anyone else really mad that UPS is shipping them instead of Fed Ex? I was so excited when I thought Fed Ex was delivering them because Fed Ex always delivers in my neighborhood before noon. UPS, on the other hand, doesn't deliver until 6pm on weekdays. I guess my town is the last stop on the same driver's route that always delivers my stuff. I am praying it'll be different on Saturdays.

Does anyone know where on UPS.com to find out if UPS in your city delivers on Saturday? I had already checked FedEx.com before everyone found out that UPS was shipping them and FedEx delivers on Saturday here (I live in Cincinnati, OH btw).

50 miles north of Cincinnati and I'm in the same sinking ship as you. I ALWAYS get UPS deliveries (if lucky to get them at all) in the evening but Fed Ex ALWAYS comes in the morning.

That is a definite possibility. If I had known UPS was being used I would have opted for in store reserve and picked it up myself

i use to work for fedex a year ago and the drivers delivers stuff when they want to. They will say they came to your house and nobody answerd if they don't feel like coming to you area. I don't know why apple would use them

Over the years I have had the same UPS driver and we know each other enough that if we see each other at a store or restaurant we will say hi to one another. My Fed Ex guy is ALWAYS different.

That is the one thing I love about UPS over Fed Ex. We had the same UPS guy for almost 18 or so years, most of my childhood. He was extremely friendly, and the whole neighborhood knew the guy. My mom works at a school down the street, and so he would always bring the packages to the school instead of leaving them at the house. It was always nice to have the same consistency we had with the Mail Man. Unfountunatly, he retired a few years ago, the new guy is just as friendly, but still sad. Lol. The USPS guy retired at a similar time as well, pretty traumatic. Haha

On the other hand, never had a problem at all with Fed Ex, we are always close to first on their route and get things delivered quickly and on time. The driver is always friendly. However, its never the same person, bummer.

Personally, I would prefer FedEx to deliver, because they always are earlier than UPS. This is purely a "me wanting to spend more time with my iPad," matter. :D I had it sent to my Parents house that I will be visiting for the weekend for this reason. Haha

I got this from UPS website concerning Saturday delivery options:

* UPS Next Day Air® Early A.M.®: Guaranteed delivery one hour later than the guaranteed weekday delivery time, as early as 9:00 a.m., based on destination
* UPS Next Day Air®: Guaranteed delivery by 12:00 noon or 1:30 p.m. where weekday shipments are delivered by 10:30 a.m. or 12:00 noon, respectively, based on destination
* UPS 2nd Day Air®: Guaranteed delivery by end of day for shipments picked up on Thursday, based on destination
* UPS Worldwide Express® Plus: Delivery based on destination
* UPS Worldwide Express®: Delivery based on destination

To OP - UPS Saturday reach is HUGE. You would really have to be in the middle of nowhere to not have Saturday delivery.

Finally, Saturday deliveries would typically be earlier than other days of the week, so stay hopeful! :)

Well I guess that Erie, PA with a population of 225,000 in it and surrounding area is in the middle of nowhere then as we do not get Sat delivery. :(

First - Apple said they would deliver on the 3rd. And it looks like they will be. They never said they would get it to you before 10am.

And correct me if I'm wrong - but the shipping is free. So stop griping just for the sake of griping. If you wanted expedited or some other shipping method - pony up and pay for it.

Finally - Why UPS? Obviously Apple was able to negotiate the better rate with UPS over FedEx for the launch. It's not a hard concept. Especially since - again - they aren't charging you for shipping.

Find something better to complain about. My .02

Sam, Why would one order their iPad expedited when they won't get it before 4/3 anyways? ;)

10 miles north of Cleveland would be nearly half-way to Canada in the middle of Lake Erie. It's not surprising that UPS doesn't deliver there on Saturdays. :)

Gee, i'm from FL - like i looked at a map recently??? :D I was guestimating the distance based on the last time i looked at it (during some storm or something!).

She lives on the lake though, but not IN it!

(and i've only met her when she visits FL, and my trip to Cleveland involved Canton and the Airport with someone else driving....)

Man, you guys need to relaaaaaax. If you preordered an iPad and it says you'll get it on the 3rd, YOU WILL GET IT ON THE 3RD. UPS does residential Saturday delivery, where as FedEx does not (or only does saturday business delivery), which is why they chose UPS for the launch. Some tracking numbers willl say Monday, but, rest assured, it will still come on Saturday. There are some rural areas, where UPS will drop your package off at the local post office and the mail(wo)man will bring it a day or so later. BUT, thats only when the shipper chooses that route which is alot cheaper than regular ground shipping. BUT, Apple or UPS will not do that. They said April 3rd so you will get it on April 3rd. UPS does not want to screw up this shipment seeing as Apple uses FedEx primarily. They are seeing this as an opportunity to expand their business to a huge retailer. So, everyone calm down. Just remember, you will have to sign for it, so either you stay home or login to Apple.com and print out the release form and leave it on your door.

Incorrect . . . Fed Ex DOES offer Saturday delivery.

Thanks for playing, try again later. Do you feel better after posting complete nonsense?

Both companies offer residential Saturday delivery. Either Apple negotiated a better price with UPS or they're load balancing across multiple carriers and we just haven't seen the FedEx shipments yet. They aren't using UPS because FedEx doesn't offer the service.

UPS to USPS hand off is a completely different thing and has nothing to do with what we're discussing here. It will not and cannot happen with these shipments.

Apple would be stupid not to play the carriers against themselves in order to get the best pricing possible on such a large launch.
