Not even that, had the included this new brick with say the 11 but no, apple never included this new brick with any device.
iPads Pro have included both USB-C cables and 18w chargers since the 2018 models, and the iPhones 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max had USB-C to Ligthning cables and the 18w brick included. The latter was cut for iPhones 12, both regular and Pro models.

So technically, Apple has actually included 18w bricks for iPhones. It was just only for the 11 Pros and then they cut all included chargers the following year.

Actually that’s incorrect. The 11 Pro models had the charging brick included. Granted the regular iPhone 11 did not. This being said if Apple chose to include the older cable that would be a dozen post just like this one questioning the logic of this decision. If you include X people ask why didn’t you include Y instead and vice versa. So as I said if this was your first iPhone then yes you had to buy a charging brick.

In the UK at least the wall brick included with the iPhone 11 was USB A, obviously that then got removed when the 12 dropped. Maybe if you're in the Apple eco system this all maybe a none issue but if the phone is the only Apple device you own you are in trouble because as I say none of all the old chargers you may have gathered up over the years are USB C

In the rare case that it’s your only apple device yes. However I deem that rather unlikely these days and all my lightning chargers from the past work.

It's obvious, to nudge people buying new power adapters with USB-C. Or to buy the USB-A version of lightning cables. It's the new Apple, anything to make a buck here and there.

OTOH, if you're a mac user, this will be a good thing as most newer Macs are USB-C only.

That “new Apple” is a SJ “achievement “ and probably getting close to 20 years old. Milk them with dongles where possible.
