Not sure I'm following the logic there. That breaks down to about $.50 a tune and the convenience of not having to leave the house to get it or pay for shipping - not bad at all. There are definitely instances where an album is more expensive via iTunes that in the store, but generally, an album off iTunes is cheaper than buying it in a store.

The logic is simple there. It's half the price per song. I wouldn't buy a CD off the net and have to pay for shipping it's ludicrous unless the price substantiates paying for shipping. I don't think the not having to leave the house argument has much merit. If being lazy beats saving $9.00 (assuming you spend $1.00 on gas) for every complete album you want then so be it. Now for people that live in the middle of nowhere the convenience of not leaving the house might be true.

I'm only talking about albums where you'd want all songs, or nearly all but one or two, and where that album has 18-20 songs. Most nowadays do. If it's price averages $.50 to $.75 per song Apple should be competitive IF, and only IF, the buyer wants to purchase the entire album. Not individual songs.

I'd like to see complete albums offered at a discount, competitively, to what the per song average would be if purchased on a CD.

Okay, I have been convinced...Thanks guys.

Time to go buy some music.

So is paying $14 for a CD at Best Buy, when all you want is a few songs ;)

There is something cheap and nasty in buying just one song from an album.

An abum is made by an artist to be listened to in full, so that each song creates part of a story - however it may be told.

The only CD's i buy on day of release are the Now Thats What I Call Music series, huge in the UK but not as much in the states i think.

All my other CD's are bought in sales, 4 CD's for £20 - that sort of thing.

And have people forgotton Album Art?, while this is CD only real weakness compared to Vinyl I don't want a small Jpg from the iTunes Store where i should have a booklet.

admitting i didn't read all the posts so pardon the rehash if there is any.

iTunes is a great management software, if you are on a Mac, it integrates with iPhoto and iMovie too.

I use it to wirelessly play my music via an airport express and optical link to my home theater/surround system. I no longer use my cd player, haven't pulled out a cd in over 3 months.

I have only 20 songs from iTunes out of 2800.

I am loading it on my company issued dell x300 to listen to tunes on the road (I travel a lot).

The software is FREE! a very attractive price, can be used with iPod, and is so simple to use, my tech hating wife even loves it.

Use it, you will like it.

Isn't Now That's What I Call Music a series of compilation albums of various artists? How is buying Now That's What I Call Music better than buying individual tracks? I don't think anyone is trying to make a "story" with those CDs. It's just taking the most popular songs of the day and putting them all on one CD.

Some albums are made to be listened as a story. So buy them as such. Others, well, aren't. It depends.

And the Now CDs are still pretty popular in the states... but that is just a bunch of individual tracks.

If you think of Now That's What I Call Music as a snapshot of music from a 3 month period then that would be more accurate.

There published 4 times a year and i gave an unbroken line from 21 to 59, and many others earlier than that.

What made the series so popular is the diversity of the music and the inlay booklet with small snippets of info on the artists.

Q: why use iTunes?
A: why not, what is better than it? infact what are are alternatives!

However it may be told? Even if it sucks so hard that you get a headache listening to it but that one song is just awesome?
I guess I should torture myself more to appreciate the artist's work more but I just cannot convince my head otherwise... :D

Pretty telling is when one of the alternatives (click on link for cool story) gets out of the game after realising they'd rather use iTunes themselves!

...Audion is instead competing with a product that, you know, we actually use ourselves. When you double click the competition in the morning, that's a pretty good sign that it's time to hang up your hat!

The ultmate logical conculsion of itunes and other digital music sources is that people only buy what they like/have not heard yet.

This ultimate logical conclusion is therfore the end of the Album.

Now this is something i do do want to happen.

I am totally with you on that one, I do not want album to fade away either.
I have a rule, if I like a minimum of 50% of an album I'll buy the entire album if it is less than 50% I'll get the individual songs.
A lot of times you have to listen to an album more than once to really appreciate it but there are as I said certain albums that are just a waste of storage space and time to listen to but they have that one song on them...

But now you can at least buy that one song whereas before I wouldn't have bought the CD at all.

They offer the Hendrix CD I talked about for $9.99 also for the complete album. It's a great deal for Hendrix's 20 best songs. I just bought it!

Thats a total waste of money.
you are so right, when I first knew that you have to buy song I was like why in the world will someone waste his money in just a freaking song in just ONE freaking song I mean I can download million songs in my phone without spending any money and time just by coping link of the video and paste in convert2mp3.net that's all it takes (no offence) and what if you don't like that song anymore what would you do.

Wow! Can't remember the last time a thread this old was revived. Sounds like you're trying to get clicks on that website. Good job. o_O
I have nothing to do with this website its just that I heard about this (buying a song) so I shared my opinion there is lots of websites that don't need money but that website is my favorite website because I have searched for an easy website and that you can download lots of songs for free and all I wanted is to share this information I mean who in the world will buy album for 9$ and believe me I wish I would get money for sharing that website.
