For my day job, I use Word unless I'm 100% certain I won't have to share the document with anyone else, in which case I use Pages.

At home, I use Pages exclusively. As a tight-fisted Yorkshireman, I'll always use the free option until I find a compelling reason to get my wallet out.

Pages just feels nicer and has less superfluous clutter that I know I'm never going to need.

You are still using Word 2008? Allot has changed since then.

My wife has 2016 but being legally blind makes it difficult with the ribbon Microsoft has moved to.

Also she has more issues with 2016 crashing on her MP 4,1 with 32GB of memory than with 2008 on the same system.

My understanding was 2008 will not run on PPC systems but could be wrong on that.

Again, we did testing and determined for the people she works with and the diverse systems utilized that Word 2008 performed better and had fewer issues.
