I would like to know what people think about Apple switching over to a two button mouse in their laptops. I think this would be a good move especially because it is so easy to run Windows on Macs now. Is this something that Apple is just holding out on or what? I have Windows on my Macbook and I use it a lot and I would love to have a right click option. I think it would be very convenient and it makes a lot of sense at this point to have a two button mouse. What do you guys think?

erm...mighty mouse?
i know this but im talking really about the laptops having one big button. i dont carry around a mighty mouse with my laptop i just use the one below the trackpad.
on a macbook (or MBP, or any intel mac for that matter) you can right click with a single button mouse just fine, i'm not even talking about mighty mouse.
apple has a single buttoned mouse for a reason, even in OS X a "right click" is used, so apple didn't keep single buttoned mouse because it never needed it before.
what ppl think the reason might be may vary, but i like the simple design, i think the simplicity design is seen in every apple product, and the mouse is certainly one, and it will not go away just because now it can run windows.
you have many options in terms of achieving the "right click" in windows on a mac, including, not limited to, get a external mouse, use cmd+click, and etc.
so no, i dont tihkn apple will use 2 button mouse on their laptop, ever.
You can two finger right click. in the mouse pane of system prefs enable two finger right clicking. Then you put you index and middle finger on the track pad and click.
I actually prefer two-finger right-click on the MacBooks and MacBook Pros to a second button, mainly because whenever I have to use a PC laptop, I'm always twisting my hand into some weird position to hit the right button (must be how I hold my hand to use the trackpad). I find the two-finger right click much more convenient and comfortable (same with two-finger scroll).
And, the only time when I need to hit both buttons at once would be during a game, when I'd be using an external mouse anyway, because no one games on a trackpad. So, I don't see why Apple needs to.

cool i didnt know that, i agree with Apple's simplicity and that's always something i have liked about Apple. I was just thinking maybe at this point practicality would take over. just a thought over this sandwich.
there's nothing impractical about it though. are you talking about in OS X or in Windows is it inconvenient?
Just spend $20 on a 2 button mouse that you can plug in through usb or wireless bluetooth...don't get it from the mac store, they rip you off try tigerdirect or newegg
The two-finger right-click function on MB/MBP trackpads is far better than a two-button mouse. If for some reason you don't like that, the option>click way is just as easy as a two-button as well.
I don't really like two-button trackpads myself - it's unnecessary when the two-finger thing works just as well.
Anyhow, in the next few years I bet we'll be seeing entirely keyless and mouseless interfaces - everything tactile and touchscreen, like Apple's already doing with the iPhone, rendering the whole 1 versus 2 button mouse debate pointless.

I am going to throw my two cents at ya. I understand your point with the two mouse buttons. I myself like the one mouse button and using two fingers. But my big gripe is WHY are you running windows anyways!!!
Pardon my ignorance, since I don't have an Intel Mac, but do ctrl-click and two-finger click work while in Windows? I think that is the main reason for the OP's question.
Control + Click does not work in windows (as far as I am aware), but the two finger clicking does.

touchscreen! NO! i can't keep my screen clean as it is now!
what will happen will be the screen or isight scans where your eyes are looking -- you'll just DOUBLE BLINK!
That means I have to lift my finger from the touch pad each time I want to left click. I would definitely need some time to get used to that...
With the way I use my touch pad, I'd just be making right clicks non stop. I using my right pointer finger for moving the cursor, and my right thumb for click. If I want to right click, I just put two fingers on the touchpad.

1 finger moves the mouse, if you click with one finger on or no fingers on, its a left click.

It works when I'm using parallels, not sure if it works through bootcamp though.
As for why there isn't a second button.. probably because its always been a single click.
I find ctrl+click or even better, two finger clicking to be much better than than two mice button. I use my thumb to click though so I never have to lift my index finger whether left clicking or right clicking.
I really hope they don't, two buttons seems pointless to me when one works perfectly, its a much more elegant solution. Whats next, a nubbin on the keyboard eewww.
I think that the mouse is the biggest issue that windows people have with apple computers. Go to an apple store and just watch people come in and see how they react to the mouse. First of all the apple workers never set the mouse up right so you always have to keep lifting it off the table and this really bugs people. My windows friend came in and tried to work the mouse and after he lifted the mouse 4 times to scroll a 24" imac he was so mad he said I hate apples. I always go in and move the mouse speed over so its faster. That usually does the trick for a newbee. Then you tell them they can run windows(on mac) and use a regular mouse and they say where do I sign. Another thing is the dock is really not a good idea at the bottom of the screen. I always move it over so I can have a larger page. Newbees are not used to this.

You have to lift your fingers anyway if you're using two finger scrolling on a long doc or web page - and I'd think it's less awkward than moving your thumb to push a mouse button. At least I think it is.
I really like the Apple mouse. It is sleek, smooth, and it does a lot for somthing that looks so plain.

You drop your middle finger down to activate the button, no contortion necessary. To us, it's just as natural as your two finger click, or what have you.
A two-button mouse was my first upgrade to my G4. It's so practical and useful, I don't see why any of you are actually down talking it. I think it would be a great feature and it would get more people like me to switch more easily. It's control+click or two finger click is just an extra step we're not used to, and it seems very inconvenient.

I don't have that anymore since it was a work computer and I changed jobs. Nice machine, but wasn't fun hauling back and forth every day.
