I’d rather do this:
Mini DisplayPort to HDMI + Hulu/Network Websites
Sure its clunkier, but it’s cheaper and makes more sense to me.

Although how much is your cable bill? How many shows do you watch? Would you miss the ability to channel surf? etc, etc...

I could live off of Netflix, Hulu, and the Networks' websites.

If you have an iPad or iPhone or iPod, you can use it as a remote. Plus, once the ios 4.2 is available, you can stream shows to the aTV. This is cool, if you are interested in owning shows or renting movies. Not sure, if other apps can use this api to stream their stuff like the ABC app on the iPad. Other network can create apps to stream over to aTV. Cloud base may come later with app store for the aTV. In the meantime, you can watch shows from Netflix and stream web shows to aTV. So, if you are to get aTV, then one should get rid of cable.

You answered your own question.

This. And this is exactly what I have done. Only problem for me is some networks such as Showtime that air "Weeds" and "Dexter" don't release the season until it's over! Bastards. Sports is a non-issue for me because big games I want to see I can just go to Hooters or somewhere similar. I'm very excited for the new :apple:TV.

May be a silly question but, you can stream your music videos too, correct?

I agree with the OP, it's not a solution for a lot of people. I don't think this is the solution Apple wanted either, I think they wanted a-la-carte channels but most companies wouldn't go for it. I think this is a temporary way of them getting the stations on board until they can do what they really want coming up, which is choose what you want by channel or show or something. Just my 2 cents, though.

why ask why??

Just know that they do,

Since all tv went digital our cable co. has started charging us for channels we use to get for free, id rather get it on atv then pay the cable co just to watch one show.

Some people may not have a DVR, some people may not have cable. So should they mis out?

So then answer me this Batman? Why do they sell seasons of tv shows on DVD in stores when you could just DVR it?

Just because the tv rental does'nt fit your needs dont knock it, it might fit someone elses need, think beyon the box.

I think ABC and Fox are just the beginning. If we had HGTV, TLC, Discover, Animal Planet, HBO, etc, this will be come more interesting.

ABC and FOX have free OTA HD. There is no point in watching this on the iTV unless you are too lazy to fast forward commercials on your DVR.

iTV does not replace the cable box because it is not yet cable.

:apple:

Don't forget Food Network!!!! We would watch a lot of shows from them as well!!! We just cancelled out satellite because we did not watch enough shows to justify. The new AppleTV is perfect for our family!

I don't know how you guys pay $70 a month on cable. I would call a threaten to cancel

I pay 30 a month for iptv(free PVR rental)/interent 19Mbs/phone, so 10$ each

after a year that price for all 3 goes up to $80 for all 3.

In a years time I will switch to shaw cable and get there 30$ for 1 year promotion.

Even if I don't switch every year I still only pay 80 a month for all 3.

@ 99 cents a show you would have to be crazy to pay this. The only ones who would pay for this are the people who drink 10$ Starbucks coffee.
