This confuses me. Why are other peoples’ choices convincing you to get a color you don’t like?

For what it’s worth, no one I know has the gold. My wife and I each have space grey, one coworker has silver, and the others at work also have space grey.

It’s not that I don’t like it at all. I just prefer silver and space gray as both those colors match my other tech. However the way Apple is promoting the Xs makes feel a bit like the black sheep for choosing a silver finish. They’re focusing only or almost exclusively on the gold finish. All tech youtubers also got the gold. It’s almost like if you don’t get the gold it’s as if you’re not getting the latest and greatest iPhone even though you are regardless of color.

They all end up in cases anyway so most of the time you can’t see the colour. Once the Xr comes out the gold Xs/max will be old hat anyway.

Of course they are going to showcase a new flashy color. That’s just marketing. Get what you like visually and stop worrying about it. I got the gold because I like how it looks. I avoided the color for years on Apple devices because I hated the white front panel that came with it.

Color doesn’t matter to me since my phone is always in a case, I always gone for the black iPhones and I did the same thing this go around.
The gold iPhone bezels look nice but the back just didn’t feel right, it was pinkish and it kept changing colors under the sunlight, so decided black way the way to go.

Firstly, obviously, stick with the colour you like best.

Secondly, all these reasons seem like reasons to avoid the gold: it’s being over promoted (because it’s new) which makes it seem common; tech YouTubers having it (again because it’s new, I suspect) also seems like a good reason to avoid it. I loathe the term latest and greatest as it’s used on this forum; it only ever means latest and the addition of and greatest sounds juvenile to me. You’re not a sheep: make your own choice!

That’s just silly.

Get the color you want. Don’t spend >$1000 on a color you don’t prefer.

It looks more of a copper to me, and it's a great change. (Even for a 60yr old male!)

Love love love it:D! Did a silver X last year so time to change things up.

Did space grey, rose gold & matte black previously

Why do people care if their ‘tech’ matches?

In my case, because I find that matching colors provide a more harmonious visual experience.

That's what I just did (got the silver), the thing is I'm regretting it because I see so many more people obsessed with the gold.

Is it because it's the new color and you want to distinguish your new phone from the previous one?
Yes

Is it because you really like gold?
Yes

Is it because it's flashier than space gray or silver?
Yes

I kinda regret not having chosen gold now since everyone seems to be getting that color even though I don't like gold that much.

But to be frank let me put my reasons down vs iPhone 8 Plus.
1) white/silver was never my type of color, whilst some may argue it looks professional and minimalistic i wanted flashy. which was why i held off the iPhone X... and went for the 8 Plus instead [not to mention camera was same in terms of IQ, which couldn't warrant the extra price tag at that time]
2) Gold on the iPhone 8 Plus was amazing to my liking, the iPhone XS Max in gold takes it to another level [the back plate is amazing af literally]
3) black/space grey is pretty much a bloody finger print magnet, it really affects my OCD because i hate smudges. Hence white phones are better for me.
4) i'm a fan of clear cases not solid ones... the one im using is otterbox traction series in navy blue. probably the only case i ever bought from an apple store because everything else they seemed to put up there sucks.
5) reason why i bought a case is because i don't buy applecare, i'm always cautious about my devices no matter the price (expensive or cheap or overpriced). the case serves like a mini apple care to me but i baby my phones so well that they still look brand new despite being used for a year or two so that says something.

maybe because the gold is the new color [and is the "only" way to showcase to others i have the new iPhone XS/Max]
for me personally as a chinese asian i seem to fly towards to gold, which is why these colors often sell out faster in places [especially Singapore or china] because their ego is inflated to show off quite a lot [trust me i know this from experience... they live off instant gratification]

whilst i buy the gold simply because it looks nice, i like it personally and i am a fandom to clear cases. also space grey/silver was too bland and dull for my liking so gold just adds that extra extra
this is really personal preference to be honest htere is NO proper reason that fits all to why...

I got gold because black and gold is one of my favorite color combinations. I don't LOVE the back glass color, but it has a pearl-like effect to it that i like. Plus, it's not a super bright gaudy gold, more of a toned down copper gold which is nice with the black front bezel. I really want to get a nice black skin for the back so it'll be more black/gold. I usually go with Space Gray but I like to mix it up now and then. lol

This is the first year I managed to get a gold iPhone.

I had the 5S in gold but after 28 days I switched to the note 3 because the screen was too small.

Wanted the gold 6 plus but after waiting for 2 months for stock had to settle for space grey.

Wanted the gold 6S plus but had to settle with silver to get it on launch day.

7 plus I wanted in rose gold and got it.

So this year I finally got my gold iPhone. I owned a gold S5 which I uses for a few months before I got my 6 plus. However I actually wanted white but it wasn’t in stock.

I had a pink gold S7 edge but it got smashed and the insurance company only had gold or black for replacements. So I took the gold and then sold it.
