Well iPod touch users and iPad users don't have a phone/ text app (not talking about imessage) but at least you can put it in a folder!

I hear OP.

Apple, how hard is it to include a separate menu in Settings for hiding native apps, huh? You already let us hide Safari, YouTube, Camera, and iTunes apps. Why not the rest of the native apps?

But still the question remains. Why can't WE have control of what apps are on are home screen...

Because Apple designed and manufactured the phone thus they get to decide what apps you have, don't have and can remove apart from the ultimate choice which is yours to buy something that more closely meets your needs.

You are quoting the original Apple during Steve Jobs first reign. A lot has changed between now and then.

The company is still what Steve Jobs left behind. He drilled his way of thinking into those executives who've just received massive stock options. The Apple product line still embraces vertical integration. So the fine tuning's changed-sure; but the essentials are still in place. The quote is valid: "Think different"-is that recent enough for you?

Because Apple designed and manufactured the phone thus they get to decide what apps you have, don't have and can remove apart from the ultimate choice which is yours to buy something that more closely meets your needs.

Is that your way of trying to say this...

No one is stopping you from using an Android phone. If you want to be part of the Apple ecosystem you play by their rules. If you do not like Apple's rules you as a consumer have the ability to choose by take your money elsewhere.

...a bit less bluntly? Because Android, Windows Phone 7 and the other obscure systems are even further away from my needs. I've been irritated by Microsoft and Google more times than I can count-Office, Command prompt, the registry, task manager, gmail, site analytics, adsense, adwords... You think I want to bring that level of complexity to my phone?

I want an intuitive phone that just works. Hence, the iPhone. But that means I'm not allowed to rant about some things that could be improved? What's the purpose of a forum exactly? Because it's not all about asking closed questions and someone provides you with a neat step by step answer. ;)

----------

You quoted the answer to the question no longer remains.

Buying something that more closely meets my needs is not an answer. It's a solution. And not exactly a brilliant one. Yes, there is a difference between an answer and a solution-one of the many subtleties of the English language.

I use my Contacts app extensively and never go into the phone to do so
Just move it to the last screen in a never used folder if you like
But many of us want it

Agreed. I use it a LOT more than I do the phone contact tab. In fact I usually make contact with someone by using the contacts to access peoples numbers/emails/websites or even addresses etc.

Am I the only one that swipes left to search and look up a contact?

Now we can just ask Siri...

Siri is good, but not great with names. Sure Bob Jones or Michael Frederick are easy lookups, but try Gurrumul Yunupingu or Juanita and similar names - it simply does not work

Very true lol. Siri has a hard time understanding Mom when I say it…

So the question remains… Why don't we have a Choice to remove the Contact app? I know because Apple will not let us. Contacts seem to be flawlessly integrated in every part of the iPhone with numerous ways to excess them. Just saying would it be that hard to remove?

I don't personally have a problem I just throw it wherever the color meshes together with other apps. But I haven't used it since I started using the Search feature.

Removing it is probably like the stocks and weather apps - for some reason Apple thinks we want it. I hate stocks - it does not interest me, and I usually use other weather Apps as they are more accurate for my area. I would love to keep them installed, but remove the icons, but they wont let us - grrr

I never use it either. Put it a folder but it would be nice if we had an option to hide apple apps like you can hide the stocks or weather widgets in notification centre. And I can't seem to put newsstand in a folder using the trick anymore. Anyone having this problem?

There's Spotlight Search as well; forgot about that. Fair point. And on a 4S Siri's an alternative method too. With Siri, you could probably eliminate the need for close to every Apple app icon though-imagine a home screen with simply Youtube, iTunes Store, App Store, Mail, Safari, Camera and Settings... That would be a slick home screen. Guess no-one would trust that while Siri's still in beta and being ironed out though.

Exactly. I almost never go to the phone app. If I want to make a phone call, send an email, look up an address text someone i go to one place the contact app. Hopefully the Op can see that he is just not getting support here. However, I would not presume to say get rid of the phone app.

But I understand that he wants the choice to delete/hide the icon, and I do for some of the other icons. There may be heaps that use the weather app, but I find it crap, and I have no interest in the stocks one eithor, but I have no choice but to have them on my phone.

Don't see what the problem is with moving the ICON to somewhere where it does not bother you. Put the weather Icon and the Contact icon in a folder call it junk and put it on the last page.

That is hardly an ideal solution. It's a workaround more than anything. :p I just want my home screens to look neat and tidy-to display what I want to use, where I want it.

This is a Forum? People that post that have a opinion or are having a problem.

It would be nice if Apple would let us remove apps that we didn't want such as Stocks, Newsstand, contacts etc… Also why not make it so the apps on home screen stop auto arranging!

People get frustrated because either they don't understand or aren't quick enough to understand what OP is composing. It's pretty simple. We want more control of are high priced gadget.

Why not heh?

But thanks for your meek squeak lol!
