Any reason why we should watch that video? Or are you trying to get the likes up? I tend not to watch random videos posted in a thread with no context as to why we should watch it. ☺️

I watched it and found it helpful. Let me really see the app library. Confirmed some of my disappointment with the lack of category control. But I am glad it was posted.I posted it because it’s relevant to the topic being discussed in this thread...specifically, how Apple didn’t quite nail it.
I agree wing Dieter that complexity has been added to the home screen.
I usually just use search to find apps. However I wish it would show the name of Folder an app is in - I swear an older version of iOS did this but they removed a few versions back.
Does the activity widget also give step count (pedometer)?I also feel like there's a lot going on now, Initially when the first iPhone came out there weren't many apps and the rows of icons worked really well.

After it became possible to have third party apps, the rows of icons layout became potentially more complicated. Some of us tried to reduce this complexity by limited the amount of apps we have installed and organising the layout visually or by type of app. Apple introduced folders to help us organise. But I suppose a lot of people didn't organise at all and this App Library will automatically do that for them.
But for those who were already organised (as pointed out by @itsmilo and @Thomas Veil below), it might feel like there is now a lot going on in that there's an extra page (App Library) which might not add anything. And also the possibility to have widgets in Today view and the home screen might feel like there's a lot going on.
But I do like the Activity widget. The only information I want is the number for active energy, the number of exercise minutes and the stand hours. Getting that information without opening the app seems useful to me. And probably there are other such useful instance.

I can see that as an issue from the screenshots I've seen. It also seems like a 1x2 widget would have been ideal for some dynamic info without being huge and sacrificing screen real estate. The 4x4 really seems too big and sacrifices too much space for a widget.I really like the idea of widgets on the home screen and the app library, but not sure I like it in practice.
Widgets specifically, I feel like they could be more compact and use less space. I tried 3 of the 2x4 size widgets and it completely fills a home screen but I don't feel like I get enough information for a whole screen's real estate worth of view.

The WidgetKit SDK only support three families : systemSmall, systemMedium and systemLarge. I think there will only these 3 kind of widgets. No 1x2 or other custom.I would also like 1x2 widgets but I can see why they haven't done them given the widgets are shared across Mac and iPad OS's and would make less sense at larger screen sizes.
Yeah. That must be really tough for them to develop UI elements for varying screen sizes. Hmm. 🤔I would also like 1x2 widgets but I can see why they haven't done them given the widgets are shared across Mac and iPad OS's and would make less sense at larger screen sizes.
That's in with why put the camera in use dot on when you are in the CAMERA app?I like the widgets and their available sizes but I think the "name" underneath them is weird. It's clutter in my opinion. Why would you write "Weather" underneath a widget that obviously shows the weather.
I do think however the App Library should me moved to the widget page and accessed via a swipe down.
Agreed, I don’t get the app library. I already have my apps grouped by type. what does this add? Or is it just for disorganized people?Agreed. The App Library makes no sense to me. Why not at least allow the user to decide what app goes in which folder in the App Library? Why does Apple get to decide for us? Why not allow us to have the option to at least view the App Library as a list instead?
Also, the widgets are designed awfully, especially the Reminders and Calendar widgets. *Why* did Apple get rid of the Up Next widget and why is this function only available with the Calendar widget in full size? The widgets feel so half-baked.
This. I always considered the native calendar app a "small widget" since it displays the current day/date and changes accordingly, so why can't they make other compact or slightly compact apps/widgets (that don't take up too much screen real estate)?I really like the idea of widgets on the home screen and the app library, but not sure I like it in practice.

Additional information at a glance. Note something you want for every app but for some it’d very usefulWhat benefits do widgets on the home screen have, other than looking "different"?
