Any reason why we should watch that video? Or are you trying to get the likes up? I tend not to watch random videos posted in a thread with no context as to why we should watch it. ☺

I posted it because it’s relevant to the topic being discussed in this thread...specifically, how Apple didn’t quite nail it.

I watched it and found it helpful. Let me really see the app library. Confirmed some of my disappointment with the lack of category control. But I am glad it was posted.

No they have not nailed it it's not fluid a lot of times I find myself trying to figure out how to get back in widget not to mention a lot of which is you can't even add. Right now it's just hit or miss

I really like the idea of widgets on the home screen and the app library, but not sure I like it in practice.

Widgets specifically, I feel like they could be more compact and use less space. I tried 3 of the 2x4 size widgets and it completely fills a home screen but I don't feel like I get enough information for a whole screen's real estate worth of view.

I also feel like there's a lot going on now, Initially when the first iPhone came out there weren't many apps and the rows of icons worked really well.

After it became possible to have third party apps, the rows of icons layout became potentially more complicated. Some of us tried to reduce this complexity by limited the amount of apps we have installed and organising the layout visually or by type of app. Apple introduced folders to help us organise. But I suppose a lot of people didn't organise at all and this App Library will automatically do that for them.

But for those who were already organised (as pointed out by @itsmilo and @Thomas Veil below), it might feel like there is now a lot going on in that there's an extra page (App Library) which might not add anything. And also the possibility to have widgets in Today view and the home screen might feel like there's a lot going on.

But I do like the Activity widget. The only information I want is the number for active energy, the number of exercise minutes and the stand hours. Getting that information without opening the app seems useful to me. And probably there are other such useful instance.
Does the activity widget also give step count (pedometer)?

Yall need to calm down. It’s beta 1 of Developer. There will still be A LOT of changes before GM. So saying that “Apple hasn’t nailed it” on the first stage of Beta is quite a stretch.

Fair enough, seen way too many posts on forums where people just put a video for the views, or whatever. Always good to post opinion or reason to watch, otherwise I just skip them.

I can see that as an issue from the screenshots I've seen. It also seems like a 1x2 widget would have been ideal for some dynamic info without being huge and sacrificing screen real estate. The 4x4 really seems too big and sacrifices too much space for a widget.

I would also like 1x2 widgets but I can see why they haven't done them given the widgets are shared across Mac and iPad OS's and would make less sense at larger screen sizes.

Yeah. That must be really tough for them to develop UI elements for varying screen sizes. Hmm. 🤔

I like the widgets and their available sizes but I think the "name" underneath them is weird. It's clutter in my opinion. Why would you write "Weather" underneath a widget that obviously shows the weather.
That's in with why put the camera in use dot on when you are in the CAMERA app?

Widgets would make the home screen look cleaner if they didn’t have text underneath them:

I have to admit that the app library didn’t wow me during the keynote. Because I change up my usage patterns during beta as much as possible to give all the new features a chance, I’m all in on the app library now.

I removed all my apps except for my most used 16 and a couple widgets. I love how ‘clean’ everything feels and I’m using Spotlight ALOT more as well.

For widgets I like still having the swipe left option because that’s where I’ll keep ‘2nd tier’ widgets that I use often, but still appreciate the convenience over option for the full app.

I do think however the App Library should me moved to the widget page and accessed via a swipe down.

Interesting idea! I have four pages of apps, I pretty much know where everything is and so feel like the App Library is adding a fifth page which I don't need.

The widgets are awesome! I cant wait to see 3rd party widgets. The App Library on the other hand does not work well. It should be optional where the default view can be Category Folders or List mode. The categories are a good idea, but in reality is confusing, and messing with my ocd.

I think the best solution would be to make the Category Folders widgets instead, use them if you want to and put there where you want. Also would be nice to be able to manually move apps between them.

Agreed. The App Library makes no sense to me. Why not at least allow the user to decide what app goes in which folder in the App Library? Why does Apple get to decide for us? Why not allow us to have the option to at least view the App Library as a list instead?

Also, the widgets are designed awfully, especially the Reminders and Calendar widgets. *Why* did Apple get rid of the Up Next widget and why is this function only available with the Calendar widget in full size? The widgets feel so half-baked.
Agreed, I don’t get the app library. I already have my apps grouped by type. what does this add? Or is it just for disorganized people?

This. I always considered the native calendar app a "small widget" since it displays the current day/date and changes accordingly, so why can't they make other compact or slightly compact apps/widgets (that don't take up too much screen real estate)?

What benefits do widgets on the home screen have, other than looking "different"?
Additional information at a glance. Note something you want for every app but for some it’d very useful

for me only thing missing is spilt screen on the iphone apart from that it pretty much has everything you could want compared to an android phone in terms of features. PIP will be my most used new feature that’s for sure.

AFAIK in app library there are folders in which the first three apps are prominent to start them with one touch.
This would be very nice on my app folders on homescreen. I often think: Put these apps in a folder but this extra click to open the folder is the one click too much.
