If Apple doesn't mind then why should you? People returning their iPad pay a not insignificant fee to do so. Apple, in turn, uses that fee to sell at a discount as "refurbished." Apple keeps two customers happy. Who loses here?
Because it it morally wrong to do so.
Feel free to email Steve Jobs and tell him that this is morally wrong. I'd love to read his reply.

They should have made the restocking fee 35%
Pretty scummy to buy something so you can just use it because you have no self control of your urges like a 3 year old, and expect a full refund. No wonder **** is so screwed up in the US.
+1 as well. People should be free to return them if they want. That is their prerogative, however it's the same mentality as people who want their cake and eat it too. The same mentality of people who consume more than they produce and like the idea of a welfare state. You get the point... Play on playa.
Would someone point me to the article where Apple said wifi ipads will be exchanged for 3g+wifi ones or is it pure speculation at this point?

I was so anxious to get one, I thought about doing this for a minute (child side of my brain at work)...but then I remembered how I hate waste and I just couldn't justify it (adult brain kicked in). So, I'm waiting for mine like a good girl.
It's like buying an article of clothing for one event, and then returning it after that use. The intention of keeping it was never there to begin with, and that's why it is wrong.
Apple's return policy is not in question....a person's integrity is.

I suppose the intention is a big question. If someone purchased a WiFi version intending to use it and then changed their mind, that is one thing, but if they never planned to keep it, that is a totally different story. I knew a guy in college who would buy an entire stereo setup from Best Buy and use it all semester, then just return it at the end. It's guys like him that we have the restocking fee in the first place, and I can't blame the companies for needing it.

Any estimates on how many current WiFi owners will return their iPads to get the new 3G version on Friday?
Ok, fine. What if this student is paying for his education with a night job and he's a music major and really needs the stereo to bone up?
Then, the company's policies (all legal mind you), are their own responsibility, and if this student takes advantage of a loophole, you shouldn't blame him.
Truth is, I do this myself. If I need, let's say a CD rom drive badly, and mine is in another state, I have in the past gone to Best Buy and taken advantage of them. Mind you, I would rather pay a restocking fee, and I feel very low for doing it, but I soon forget all about it.
Pleased are the forgetful.
Sorry, Mac Jones...but you're going to have a hard time convincing me that you 'need' a CD rom bad enough to validate that temporary purchase.
That said, I don't peek at Christmas presents, either, because I'm not seven anymore.
I sleep pretty well at night, too.![]()
Sorry, Mac, but when you say "let's say...", you're trying to provide reasoning in which to agree with you...no?
Anyway, it's not the kind of lesson I'd teach my kids...how to get away with stuff. I am curious, tho, what would someone say when they return the WiFi for the 3G....? The truth?? That right there should dictate whether it's right or wrong.
Final thought:
"Just because you can doesn't mean you should."
WiFi here with no interest in getting the 3G
