I'm indecisive about which one to get? If I have 3g on my iPhone, should i get it on the iPad?

It's really all up to you. Pros and cons of both. I have a 3GS iPhone, and no questions asked, I'm waiting for the 3G iPad. :)

GPS is one feature that is in Wifi + 3G not in the Wifi.

That's pretty much all.

+1. I have a 32GB 3GS and a MBP so I actually have no need for an iPad,, but I'll be buying a 64GB Wifi-only version.

This whole question is driving me nuts! Just when I think I've made up my mind (latest was wifi iPad), I read a comment out here or talk to someone who says something that makes me think again and realize wifi + 3g is really what I want even though I don't think I will use 3g all that much.

I just think there is some value to already having it on the device just in case I would need to activate it.

So now I'm back in the wifi + 3g camp.....even though it means waiting 3 weeks or so.

Anyone else continuing to have this quandry?

Arrgh!!!!!

To add to my quandary is when will AT&T release tethering on the Iphone??
If I can use a Wifi Ipad with my 3Gs then great. This has to be a discussion at Apple.

IMO the iPad is crippled if you don't get the 3G version. Who wants wifi only? There isn't wifi everywhere.

Plus, if you don't have wifi, you could switch over to 3G...making it a true mobile device, where you ALWAYS have access to the internet.

That's my opinion, at least.

I got the WiFi model b/c I have an iPhone which is always with me. I suspect the only times I'll be using the iPad is when I'm near WiFi any way -- home, coffee shop, airport, airplane, hotel. It really depends on where you'll use the iPad, and whether you use the 3G.

About the only thing I might want on the 3G would be the GPS. I have MyWi now on my iphone so I always have a wifi hotspot with me.

I'm going to buy the cheapest ipad for now and when they come out with the camera version I'll trade up to that. :apple:

Ordered a 64GB 3G

I was/am set on getting the 64GB model. The only question was 3G or not. In the end, having the option of activating and using for an extra $130 up front is relatively negligible for me. If I find I don't like the ATT plan or coverage, then I can always look into the MiFi, tethering hack, etc. down the road.

So, for me the extra $$ is just logical for the 3G. No need to over-analyze...

well i put it this way. if something is so important that i need to check it right away i have my iphone for on the go. otherwise, when ever im gonna be using my ipad will be in class or at home both of which have wifi.

3G baby. How come its not a 3GS?

It's better than a 3GS. More like a 3GXS ;-). I guess they just wanted to start with iPad 3G first :). The 3G isn't as important to this device as it is to the iPhone I guess. It's super important to me though ;-).

I got a Wi-Fi only version because where I plan on using it most of the time will have wifi. I also have a jailbroken iPhone that lets me send out my 3G as WiFi. I know I'm missing out on GPS, but I'm not willing to pay the $129 premium and then 14.95.

Plus, whenver I travel, its 95% by plane which is Wifi only.

I suspect if I could get a 3G model on the 3rd, I might pay for it. But maybe not. I don't plan on keeping service on it, and not sure the extra $130 is worth "just in case." Waiting just pushing me off the fence to get the WiFi.

The only time I can really envision using 3G is when I'm riding in the car, but I'm usually driving and I'll have my iPhone anyway.

What about the people, like me, who will be using the iPad about 99.5% of the time where there IS wifi?

If 3G was a negligible cost increase, and they were available on the same day, then I'd get it. Otherwise, it's a waste of money for me. Also, some of us don't want ANOTHER data plan, even if it is without a contract. I'm already forced to buy one as it is with the 3GS.

I might get a 3G iPad a few months from now, if I find 3G to be lacking for vacations and such. We have our iPhones for that. But if, on our next vacation with the iPad, I keep thinking "damn there is no wifi and I wish I could get a connection now", then I might sell the wifi and get the 3G. But for now, I just want to get my hands on the thing. I'll use it at home and on lunch break at work nearly all the time, both of which have wifi.

I got to thinking about the iPad being unlocked for 3G. T-mobile is the only other carrier that has 3G GSM. I know 3G service is on a different frequency which is why you can't use T-mobile's 3G service on an Iphone.

The question here is, is the Ipad 3G equipped to handle T-mobile 3G network? Or is it going to be the same deal like the Iphone that you can't use it.
