Wifi iPads wont get full 4.0?

iPhone OS 4 will work with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the second- and third-generation iPod touch this summer, and with iPad in the fall. Not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking is available only with iPhone 3GS and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).

So it mentions the iPad, yet does not mention multitasking for ipad. Theres a source for you

iPhone 2G and older models (iPhone 2g, iPod touch 2nd and older) will not be able to get the 4.0. 3G and certain iPod touch will get some 4.0. ONLY 3gs and latest iPod touch can get full os 4.0. iPad will get the FULL os 4.0 and of course the next iPhone HD. I would be shock if that is not the case!!

Actually, it's FAR more likely the older iPhone hardware won't be getting multitasking because it has significantly less RAM available for apps (about 40MB vs 168MB for 3GS & 3rd-gen touches).

This is what worries me. They dont mention the iPad getting everything the 3Gs iPhone does. I could totally see Apple leaving wifi only iPad users hanging out to dry and forcing them to upgrade to a 3G version to get multi tasking and other 4.0 features.

The correct interpretation of that statement is that multitasking is available only for the iPhone 3GS as opposed to other iPhone models and third-generation iPod touch as opposed to earlier models of the iPod touch. iPad is not mentioned in the example because all iPad models will support multitasking, so there is no need to specify which ones.

This is why I'm waiting for iPad Rev2. Will have OS 4.0 or better, plus probably other goodies like camera? More storage? Debugging current issues? Longer battery life? All for the same price.:cool:

Look at the differences carefully. Wifi version has the same specs as the 3g versions.

The 3g and 2g itouch is not getting multi touch because of the hard ware similarities. Basically saying hardware X will not get 4.0

Ipad wifi and Ipad 3g are the SAME HARDWARE. just one has an addition communcations module. SAME HARDWARE!! So if Ipad is getting 4.0 both version will get the same software.

Wifi isn't the issue.....its hardware.

Iphone2g: Will not get 4.0 (your contract on ATT is up)
Itouch1g: will not get 4.0
iphone3g: will not get multitask support (your contract on ATT is up)
Itouch 2nd will not get multitask support

Iphone3gs: will get full 4.0 support (256MB ram)(your contract is still intact)
Itouch 3rd: will get full 4.0 support (256MB ram)
Iphone3GSHD: will get 4.0 (duh)

Ipad wifi: will get full 4.0 support (1ghz + 256mb ram, why wouldn't it)
ipad 3g: (it's the SAME HARDWARE!!!) so yes it will get 4.0

It's a hardware variation that separates them. NOT WIFI.

Actually you are assuming the as opposed. I tend to think your interpretation is right, but then again Apple released a 2G iphone when they should have released a 3G. They released a 2G touch without bluetooth stereo. The 2G touch is fast enough to multitask yet it wont be included in 4.0, Jobs and Co loves obsolescence. It wouldnt entirely surprise me to see Apple screw early ipad adopter.
 
I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see some other features appear in the 4.0 for iPad. They should have more anyway... It's suppose to be capable of more.

It will have Multitasking for sure.
 
With 4.0 the wifi version of the iPad will only be permitted to to one task per day. For example, one can do email on Monday, web browsing on Tuesday, gaming on Wednesday, word processing on Thursday and so on and so forth. It will also not be able to play any music that is not the bee gees.

So, just for the record: Do you sincerely believe the iPad won't get multitasking? Yes/no. Just trying to understand the psychology of these posts.

Hehe I believe the ipad 4.0 will get multitasking. However, the Apple website does not make that 100% clear even though it would have been easy to do so. It's rather strange that Apple would have such an ambiguity on their site. Hope that helps :)
 
I think it's less about ambiguity and more a case of deliberate misunderstanding in order to fan the flames.
