Will 3.1 Support Flash Player? New Sprint HTC Phone Supports Flash...

Yeah I guess you could say that the new HTC supports if that's what you want to call it. I wouldn't say supports from what I've seen from it. It just kind of chugs it way through it.

As far as the iphone goes, don't ever hope to see a flash plug in on it. It very unlikely you will ever see it.
 
No. Not Yet. Apple doesnt play catch-up with the competition. That's not their style :cool:

However, I'm sure they're working on it. We Hope.

As far as Apple is concerned Flash is on it way out. They're not going to waste their time.

"Ever?" If you saw what an iPhone will look like ten years from now, you probably wouldn't even recognize it. I think it's safe to say that with technology evolving the way it is, the iPhone will eventually have the processing power of a full computer, and I'm sure Flash Player will be viable.

And that means that with evolving software that flash will still be around. If you had taken the time to read my next post you would see that Apple believes that Flash is on it way out, to be replaced by something better. Standers come and go and Apple isn't very hip to sticking with trends.

Flash Player will be obsolete technology in ten years. :D

But ten years from now I would be amazed if Flash was anything approaching a web standard. There are so many more efficient ways of doing everything that lazy web designers now rely on Flash for. Plugins will become a thing of the past as new web standards for media displace them.

So?

It's technically "viable" to put windows media playback on the iPhone now and yet I feel safe saying that that's never going to happen either.

Same with Flash. Not gonna happen.

By that time Flash will undoubtedly be obsolete.

There are a lot of reasons not to support Flash as a standard, and the fact that it sucks on mobile devices isn't even at the top of the list. Most Flash websites don't observe accessibility standards (i.e. they don't support screen reading for blind users), which to my mind is far more crucial than the fact that some mobile phones don't support it. Flash had it's day. Just forget about it and move on.
 
Apple never said they were against MMS. That idea came from others vainly trying to explain why it was missing.

Likewise, Apple's never said they wouldn't support Flash on the iPhone. Jobs simply said it wasn't good enough on mobiles yet. (That's not to say he might not also have some kind of Adobe grudge.)

In any case, as long as Apple allows Flash on Macs, then the iPhone will not display the "real Apple internet".

Personally, I want it for all the tech news sites.
 
have you actually seen flash "running" on the HTC Hero? It's almost a cruel joke to tell people the hero has flash because that gets their hopes up. The Hero does not display flash in any sort of useable way.
 
I'm really interested in what useful flash-only sites people are dying to use. I'm not trying to start a fight, I just personally never miss it and I'm curious about what other people do that requires it.
 
Watch how much CPU flash uses on snow leopard & be thankful it's not on the iphone.

Flash and Java will never come to the iphone because Apple would lose control.

its all flash based videos sites like youtube (vimeo, google video, etc.) and mostly porn sites.

That's a really weak argument. A lot of technology we consider important now may well be obsolete in ten years. That doesn't mean we don't need it now.

Well, maybe not by Apple, but third party software plays windows media.

Most websites that stream audio (e.g., internet radio) or video (e.g., internet television) use flash players.

Yep, same here. I am able to find far more useful iPhone-optimized sites to spend time on than those bloated flash-laden sites that have all the bells and whistles but very little content.
