Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm considering this monitor and you seem to be the only one with the same hardware as me, a GTX680 2GB.

Can you clarify if you get boot screens or not, and whether the performance of the 680 is sufficient to drive the desktop in everyday use?
Thanks.

I'm driving 3 displays: UP3216Q (4k) and two 3007WFP-HC @ 2560x1600. No issues at all. I have one of the 3007's setup as the boot display -- I have never tried using the 3216.

Ah, I hadn't considered keeping my 3008WFP! Great idea.
Do you find that 32" 4K means you can work at native res or do you pixel double to 1920x1080p equivalent?
Thanks for the quick reply.

Just want to chime in and say that I'd heard 39-40" was the sweet spot for running 4K at native res, so that's what led me to the Seiki Pro 40" (well that and a killer deal at Newegg last fall). But after using it at native res I find I'm much happier with one of the HiDPI resolutions for everyday use. My main problems with it at 4K are that the menu bar is infinitesimal and I lose the mouse pointer all the time.

I'm sure if I search around I could find ways to mitigate those two issues, but at the same time I haven't found myself really needing that much real estate either. So for now I just enjoy the smooth HiDPI resolutions. It's nice to know though that I can increase back up to 4K if I need it though.

I've never seen 4K native res on a 32", but I'd imagine you'd need really good eyesight to use it that way for everyday usage.

I use the 32" for Photoshop work. I was more interested in color gamut than resolution. It's a little dense to read the small fonts on the tools, layer names, etc. It all depends on your viewing distance and eyesight.

I just upgraded from an old 2.5k monitor to a new LG 32UK550-B 32 Inch 4K UHD for $358 shipped from Amazon. I love it! My preferred resolution is 3008 x 1692 so text is not too small but the text is wonderfully better and easier on my eyes due to the brighter, newer display and higher resolution.

Initially I used a GeForce GTX 680 to run the LG 4k monitor but switching between desktops was slow and jerky. So I installed a Radeon RX580 Sapphire and now the transitions are smooth and Finder snappy. Here are the Geekbench 5 GPU scores showing the significant increase in Metal score. Note that I have a Mac Pro Early 2019 4,1 flashed to 5,1 (as shown below) running macOS Mojave 10.14.6. Now I can wait in comfort for the right next generation ASi Mac to arrive sometime this year.

Old thread, but... the AMD RX 580 does 4k @ 60Hz in a Mac Pro 4,1 / 5,1:

display_manager.py show available
current mode:
resolution: 1920x1080, refresh rate: 60, HiDPI: True
default mode:
resolution: 3840x2160, refresh rate: 60, HiDPI: False
HiDPI modes:
resolution: 3840x2160, refresh rate: 60, HiDPI: True
