I've been googling around and haven't found any information. I'm a college student and didn't even consider the iPad because of lack of funds. Today I realized that I've been paying my tuition and textbook costs with a credit card that has a rewards program. With my amount of points I can get $200 from Amazon or about $170 from best buy. I'd rather order from Amazon since I'll get more money and theres no taxes (saves me 40%) and my dad has a Prime account so I can get next day shipping anyway.

I know theres a conflict of interest when it comes to the iPad and Amazon but I feel as though they would be losing a lot of potential income if they don't sell it.

Any information is appreciated and I look forward to hopefully good news!

They will, just not on the release date.

Are you sure about that? I've never seen the Sony Reader from Amazon. So seeing an iPad might be difficult since it competes with the Kindle. I for would love for Amazon to carry it since I'm a Prime Member, but I have my doubts.

Amazon carries other Apple products, so I don't see why the iPad would be any different. It would surprise me if they DIDN'T carry it.

Well they carry alot of other Sony products, but not the Reader. I guess we can be surprised then.

Hmm looks like everyone is as confused as I am. I don't want to redeem the gift card from amazon unless I'm sure. I could do best buy, but I'll get less money and I'll have to pay tax.

I read a few articles that said it's possible they'll stock it on the 12th.

Apple's allowed the Kindle app on their iPad after advertising the iBooks app so much. I think the least Amazon can do is sell the iPad too. It's not like they won't earn money from it, and to be honest, the iPad and the Kindle are mostly aimed at different audiences.

Amazon will sell it just not right away.
Its a mass market device like the ipod.....they will eventually sell it.

For those reasons alone I believe Amazon will sell the iPad. It may take a month or 2 but I think you'll see them sell it.

Time will tell. ;)

I said the same thing about a week ago in another thread on the same topic. There are three companies carrying the Sony Ereader on Amazon and none of them are Amazon. It would appear that Amazon is not in the business of selling major competitors to it's own device.

ok i figured it was that or they were just dumb haha.

i'm getting anxious now! i really hope i don't have to resort to best buy

Wasn't there an article a few days ago saying how the iPad might be sold though other retailers besides Best Buy tomorrow?

i too believe that amazon will carry it eventually, it's just a matter of when. however, i emailed amazon and this is the response that I got:

"Hello,

I apologize for any inconvenience this causes, but at this time ipad is unavailable to us and we're not sure if we'll be able to obtain it in the future."

uh oh =\

looks like i might have to be stuck with best buy

The iPad was on amazon when steve announced it back in Jan. They took it down, shortly after, so I imagine that it will come back up any day now. :)

I think so

I think they will, someone said they saw a screen shot and code pop up, but then it was gone.

Not sure why they wouldn't. They sell pretty much all the other products

I bought a Sony Reader from Amazon just a couple of weeks ago. When I was shopping, they seemed to have every "flavor" and color.

how many times are people searching for "ipad" at amazon each day - I find myself doing it at least 5-10 times a day.

But Amazon isn't the one selling it. It's being sold by several different companies. (buy.com, crutchfield, vann's and others I never heard of before). Amazon themselves do not sell any at all. So, unless Amazon suddenly decided to get into the Kindle competition selling you have to wait for buy.com, crutchfield, vann's and others to be allowed by Apple to sell it.

Here's my theory - I think Apple is going to wait until demand dies down for the iPad via apple directly and bestbuy outlets before they send out shipments to amazon. They figure that if they can meet demand directly, it's more profitable for them rather than having to pay out a percentage to a reseller like amazon.

Since it seems that demand is already dying down a little bit (as evidence by the fact that you can go to most apple stores & best buy and pick up an ipad if you want), and that the second shipments are already going out, I'm thinking (and hoping) that we should see them at amazon in the next week or two.

typically

typically, it does take usually 4-6 weeks before one sees generic apple products at amzn.
