I agree, but that's a personal choice.
If their choices are ugly or weird looking then that's on them.
But at least give consumers the option if they so choose to change the way their phone looks.

Agreed! Look at one of my first themes. In 2007, pretty cool. Now, not so much. :D

It's funny because the kinds of restrictions that are present in iOS would never be tolerated on a Mac running OS X.

Imagine being told you had to use iTunes to transfer video or music files to your Mac. Only so many apps in the dock and you can't place your icons anywhere you want them either. And Apple is only allowing you to use Helvetica on your Mac. There would be outrage!

No because it would get in the way of Apple making more money otherwise. If anyone can easily drag and drop their movies or music without iTunes and share anything over Bluetooth with any other phones, then they would less likely use Apple services like iCloud or purchase from iTunes store. That's the way I see it. Though you can argue otherwise with Google who allow more freedom and sell services too.

I wasn't meaning like that I meant a little more freedom as in customizing fonts or icon changes. Kind of like how they have the custom keyboards.

I've used iOS since the iPhone 4, and have strayed every so often due to Apple's lack of customization, before quickly returning back to iOS due to their amazing build quality, eco system, customer service, and overall software stability.

I am wondering if they will ever give users full customization such as being able to change your font system wide, the ability to change the look/size of icons, etc. I know this is all achievable with a JB, which I have been doing for years now. I am just wondering if Apple will ever have a device that is capable of the before mentioned customizations out of the box without having to JB.

Nope... with Apple it's their way, or no way.

Even if Apple doesnt want to give you control at least make some "standard" available like every other device out there.
e.g. USB support

Now it is just a pain to move files in and out. I dont see what's wrong with plugging your thumbdrive directly to phone and move files or mapping to a network drive and doing the same.

Instead for iphone you have to go through a convoluted slow, data/bandwidth wasting way (using cloud storage).

Before anyone shout icloud is the way to go, there is a very big problem with it. In my (and many other) organization we are not allowed to put work files on to the cloud.

I hear you. It's all about money and controlling what goes in and out of devices.
This way if you have a cool song or video on your phone you can't send it to someone sitting next to you.
They have to purchase the song and sync it with their own iTunes library.

It sounds nice in theory, but in reality, I'm not even sure I want more control.

I feel that the reason people like iPhones is the exact reason iOS and apps are more stable (IMO). If Apple made something akin to Android, then people will complain about what are currently Apple's/iOS' strengths.

Pretty sure that a user-selectable typeface, something Steve Jobs himself deemed absolutely necessary on even the very first Macintosh, wouldn't decrease stability. Many things about iOS make it more secure. Certainly not everything...

Apple has always been this way from first APPLE II computer. Control also allows for better security and fewer fixes needed.
