I hear you, however in case of unlocking the device, I think the lack of a home button would be a progress as you could always swipe up from the entire bottom of the screen where your hands most likely are anyway, independently of the device‘s orientation.

The home button is a (compared to the iPad size) tiny button who is always on a different side depending on how/in which orientation you hold your device. You have to physically reach up with your finger to the exact spot of the home button, and hit it with the right spot of your finger so that it unlocks via Touch ID. With iPhone X controls? Just flick up anywhere on the entire bottom portion of the screen, that‘s it.

About the headphones I agree, not needing to charge them or being afraid to run out of charge is still one of the main upsides of wired headphones (and this is coming from someone who personally loves his AirPods and BeatsX). However it‘s still possible that the headphone jack will survive the „iPad X“-redesign and stay for a while, depending on what other changes Apple makes with the device.
My issue there would be that my iPad is never in an upright position. I do hope that I can at least disable the FaceID and just use a pass code if they do discard the fingerprint sensor. It would be annoying but it's a step I'd prefer over trying to utilize facial recognition with my use.

So do you want the Touch ID to stay or go ?

Currently wondering the same as augustya, you originally didn‘t seem to want the home button to be removed but what you said would actually be in favor of the home button-less design, no? There would be no „upright“ or „wrong“ orientation to unlock it, the home bar to swipe up from would always be on the bottom with respect to how you‘re currently holding the device. For example if you only use the iPad in landscape mode, you could always swipe up from the entire bottom of the screen, you don‘t have to reach to sometimes the left and sometimes the right side of the device for the tiny home button and then hit it in the right angle for Touch ID. Or am I missing something?

Also using solely a passcode and no biometric authentication method would still work, just like on the iPhone X, if for some reason you prefer that. But unless you have an evil twin or something, I see no reason why you wouldn‘t want to have your device unlock by just looking at it.:)

Having discussed everything about Face Id here I seriously don't know how Apple is gonna make the Face Id work in landscape mode ?
I‘d presume they‘ll update Face ID to recognize the face from any angle (or at least from the four main orientations), no? For example if the initial scan fails then they could just rotate the scanned facial data by 90° and check it again, if it still fails rotate it again by 90° and so on. I mean this would be a naive algorithm to do it and surely Apple could come up with more efficient ways, but I don‘t think it would be fundamentally difficult for Apple to make Face ID angle/orientation independent (like Touch ID already is!), it probably just wasn‘t a priority for the iPhone X as one usually holds it upright for unlocking.

I've got Sennheiser pcx-550s, Airpods, Sennheiser Momentum in ear Bluetooth headphones and the only difference between them is sound - they all connect to my iDevices without fail.

Most of the wireless Bluetooth headphones or earbuds what ever they are including the Apple AirPods lack big time in sound quality. The other point is also unless there is no quality wireless earbuds that are invented ! There is no point in getting rid of the headphone jack on the iPad ! is it ? Unless the objective of the iPad is to make it thin as much as possible !

This is not true anymore. There are plenty of good wireless headphones. Bose, sennheiserz all...

Have you tried any of the one's that you have mentioned ? I have tried all atleast most of them, they do and they are Bluetooth wireless ear buds but they are not something an audiophile would prefer !!

Most likely later this year the modern iPad will be released.

Bezeless
Face ID
No home button
Most likely OLED

At a higher price point than the current Pro.

I prefer to keep it.

I would prefer to have it but Apple will do what they want. So in order to get a newer iPad, I'd have to negotiate if they don't provide the Touch ID. However, no headphone jack would push me into an Android tablet. That or a new laptop.

Bose QC35 if you feel those are lacking then you must just listen to studio monitors.

There’s not a single Android tablet out there that even come close to iPad. You better save money and buy a laptop instead.

That‘s the unfortunate truth. Apple has great adversaries in the smartphone market, but not so much in the tablet market. Multiple friends of mine bought (relatively) cheap Android tablets over the last few years and none of them use it anymore. Compared to that I often hear/read about stories about people still going strong with iPad Airs and even earlier models. Jumping to an Android tablet when coming from an iPad Pro is not something I would recommend with the current state of the market.

Alright, I see. Well as akash.nu said, going with an Android tablet is not really advisable with the current state of ther Android tablet market, a laptop might be the better choice here. Or you might want to consider a (non-Pro) iPad which I would expect to keep Touch ID and headphone jack for at least a few years to come, or with a 2017 iPad Pro which is also an excellent device that would last you for many years.

But if you‘re not in a hurry then I would first wait and see how the „iPad X“ turns out this year. Maybe the Face ID + gesture control combo can win you over after all; I don‘t think Apple would put that into an iPad and remove Touch ID over it if they didn‘t know what they were doing. We can worry and speculate about it now but if the iPhone X is anything to judge by, then the „iPad X“ will most likely be a step-up in terms of usability and seamlessness.

Well Ok, The one you have mentioned, despite being wireless and Bluetooth and over the ears, I was talking about something like Bose Soundsport Free, which are AirPods Competitors and they suck in Sound Quality !!
