Will Apple release a mid range or high end M-Series iMac?
Or is what we have now it?

Looking at the specs for it, which we've all seen, looks very much like a low end iMac. Same M1 chip. Only one screen size. Even the price, under $3k in my worthless Australian dollars. Everything screams low end iMac in my opinion.
Am I wrong in my thinking or will a mid or high end M-seres iMac be coming soon?

Since the 27" iMacs remain Intel, just like the four-port Macbooks, I'd say the answer is yes - they will (in time) release a higher tier M-series lineup.

I kind of like the new iMac's. Not quite pro machines, but that's okay for what I need. The video and sound look to be a big upgrade from my M1 MBA and it actually has some cooling. I wonder how much they'd give me in trade in for the MBA.

One thing I'm going to get for sure is the new Apple TV.

Of course they will. As others have said, they still sell the 27" Intel Mac with more powerful GPUs etc. There is little doubt that that one will be replaced eventually as well. My bet is still fall this year.

My WAG would be announcement at WWDC with a mid/late summer release in time for back to school buying. Especially as more and more colleges are planning for a normal resumption of classes in September.

Completely a guess though.

In fall when the M2X 16” MBP gets released, so will the high-end M2X iMac with an additional dedicated GPU option probably.

Remember it's only been a couple months since M1 actually came out. I bet that they wanted to upgrade all the entry-level machines first, as that is what most consumers would buy. The Pro machines would most likely come out later this year with an M1X/2 chip.

Any place but here or there....
I agree with the above comments, Apple will release mid-range to high-end iMacs with a more powerful M chip and more Ram. I really like today’s iMacs, but own an M1 MBP, so I’ll wait for a more powerful M chip iMac. I‘d buy a Yellow larger screen iMac stat.

Surprised Apple didn’t release a30” M1 Imac
As well. However I have a feeling Apple will in the future
As for the lack of full screen and the heat sink still being there is upsetting. Do we have to wait another 8 years for the next refresh??
Bottom Line: while the colors are nice and the M1 chip is super fast. Having that heat sink is horrible I had an HP Thatwas SLEEKER THAT THE NEW Imac

I’d bet that this is the last Mac to get the M1 chip. Every Mac that’s still on Intel (including 27” iMac) requires more TB ports, more ram capacity, and they generally are geared more towards power users which warrant a better chip design.

I’m hopeful we will get an M1X announcement at WWDC this year along with possibly 2 new macs. One of them will be a higher-end Mac mini as that’s just super easy to make and sell. Im not sure what the other one would be, but maybe another iMac or a MacBook Pro?

100%, M1 is their just their low-end Mac chip (although it's crazy powerful for low-end). Expect an M1X or whatever for the 4 port Macbook Pro 13", Macbook Pro 16", higher-tier iMacs, higher-tier Mac Mini's and then something even more powerful for their real pro desktops.

Do you think all Mac GPUs will be on the main SoCs, even the rumoured 128-core ones?

No, I think that the GPU in a higher-end Macs will be on a separate die. But in terms of topology it will still be an integrated GPU (memory interface routed though shared cache/connector).

There's rumours of Apple working on a Apple Silicon dGPU (alternative)

There is a rumor that Apple is working on a higher performant GPU codenamed "Lifuka". That's about it. No source ever claimed it was a traditional dGPU. It is a fairly common thing to misinterpret these leaks as people try to push them into the frame of their preconceived notions without really looking at the context. Just look at the "MagSafe is coming back!" story: the leaker said that "next Mac will feature a magnetically latched connector", so people immediately jumped to conclusions (as ridiculous and out of place as those might have been), and in the end the "next Mac" was the iMac and the "MagSafe" was the iMac power cord.

Tim ended with, see you soon...
See how soon that is?
WWDC and more products then or just more product launches even earlier.
A bigger iMac will come soon with various species more powerful Macs.
Looking forward to that.

Though I liked the new colorful iMacs, I am waiting for the better ones.
They could also come in various colors I believe, but maybe more like gold, silver, space grey etc. ?

i wonder, since Apple said that the gpu from the 24" imac, is 50% better than the 21.5" dgpu....that means the M1 is higher cloked than the M1 macbook pro 13" ?!
Because the mbp13" with m1 is not 50% better in gpu than the dgpu vega 20...
so what do you think @leman ? i mean those 2 fans can help the M1 to be higher clocked

They said “up to”, which basically means that they were comparing it to the lowest 555X.

So yeah, it looks like the M1 in the iMac is identical to the rest of the line. It’s going to be sane performance as Mini.

She clearly said "up to 50% perf faster than most powerful dgp from the 21.5", that is the vega 20
So even if its on par with vega 20...that means the M1 is a little different..since the M1 from my mbp 13" is not around that level
I will order 1 to see whats the difference , hope i can get in May
Do you will order one? just for testing at least? :)

I only see Apple doing three distinct series of desktop Macs, and two of the three are already out:

Budget option: Mac mini M1

Mid-range option: iMac M1

High-end: iMac Pro M1 or Mac Pro M1, most likely the latter to further underline the differences in branding and performance. This is also where we might see "M1X" or "M2" or something different than M1 chips.

This is the case for iPhones with the SE(budget), 12(mid-range) and 12 Pros(high-end), the iPads with the (regular) iPad(budget), iPad Air 2020(mid-range), and iPad Pro M1s(high-end).

There can't be an option between mid-range and pro, that would be like having an ice-cream shop that sells a small, medium, semi-large, and large. It's bad marketing and Apple has never done that before.

Consumers need clear distinctions between value and price, and having in-between options greatly detracts from this and even confuses some to the point of not buying anything at all.

While the new iMacs are pretty and quiet, they are neither very performant or, unfortunately, cheap.
That doesn’t bode too well for my hopes for a larger iMac. (If it comes, Tim Cook wasn’t really ambigous when he talked about the new iMac. There was no hint of a family of devices.) If a larger iMac comes around it will likely share the same design ethos, implying it will share SoC with a larger MBP. And cost will be significant step up.

This may be the first iMac generation/design I skip completely.
