As a pen and paper replacement - no.
As the device of choice for the sofa/bed - no.
As a book reader - absolutely not.
As creative art centred around and pencil-absolutely not.

iPads are low cost army Swiss knifes when it comes to user interactions. I doubt we see a 600 USD MacBook tomorrow.

I bet 99% of laptop usage is on a desk while 99% of the iPad usage is actually used on the lap or the on an under arm.

Agree with this. Remember that Apple probably wants people to have both an iPad and a MacBook. The only way to do that is to keep their functionality separate. The AS MacBooks will be laptops above all else. Sure, they’ll be able to run iPad apps, but it won’t be the same as on a touch device.

Other way around for me. Once I got IPad, and 12 rMB died, I replaced with Mac Mini. So my new portable is the iPad Gen3 with Bluetooth keyboard. Same keyboard I use with Mac Mini. Just throw in backpack and go. I’m a programmer and can hit my corporate gig with VDI, and my side gigs thru TexTastic From the iPad.
