Indeed, I have to admit that I cannot give a final result now. I think you can state battery times after a week and not after one day. Anyhow, I only got 4 hours battery life so far (only some office tasks). This seems to be very low.

Was that estimated or, did your laptop actually run out of juice after 4 hours.

My brother plays this game on a mbp 2015, not a custom model just the regular 256gb one and it works great so I assume the newer models should run it too.

To answer my own question: Civ 6 runs perfectly on a 13'' MBP with Iris 550 graphics ;-)

I tried it yesterday for a bit:
  • On native resolution with lowest graphic settings it runs super smooth but looks a bit crappy.
  • On native resolution with fairly high graphic settings (see below) it runs surprisingly well.
  • Waiting times between turns are quite long. Even during the first turns it can take up to 30 seconds.
  • Important to mention: I only played like 40 to 50 turns. I don't know if I can continue to play these settings with an armada of troops in turn 200 or so.

The whole forum thanks you. I never played 5, I hope 6 is as good as the past. BTW, is it actually spelled "Civilisation" in your part of the world? I only ask because it would create havoc on searches. I was easily able to find this thread again because I remember the "s" instead of the "z".

This is surprising, it doesn't run so great on my base model 15". Maybe I am just picky.

What's really odd to me is that I seem to get very similar performance no matter the resolution...

You are absolutely right, I just corrected the title and also added a "6" to the civilization. And while I am writing these lines I see the problem, my auto-correction seems to be very British :)

I never tested another resolution but played around with the other settings a bit. Those seem to influence performance a lot for me.

I would think it should run perfectly on a 15'' with a real GPU but maybe I am just used to crappy Civ since I player Civ5 on a MBP 15'' from 2010 for the past years....or maybe the 16 GB of RAM do the trick?

I am close to just invest the EUR 60 for Civ 6 and try it out, but maybe somebody already tried that?

I've got a maxed out 13'' with TB so I am sure it will work in some way but am curious how good it will run, especially in the late phase of the game.

Thank you in advance for any insights!

Ok guys, I ve got the answers to your question. Had the same one actually then bought Civ 6 and currently been playing a few days on the base version of the 2016 MB Pro with touch bar.

Verdict is it s totally playable, it runs smoothly but with a few important caveats.
1, it gets hot and the fan start running after playing 2 minutes.
2, the game defaults to minimum settings. I further reduced the definition a bit so this expensive machine does not get too hot and to reduce internal wear... but that s just me, I m not a Mac hardware expert, so maybe it s just fine. Nevertheless when it gets really hot I seem to get anxious.
3, the experience is really brought down by the small 13' screen and the lacklustre graphic settings. This is a game that really needs a 27' display with a maximum of details and definition to make the maximum of the visual clues provided.

But it's def playable and still addictive. Civ wiki is the best resource to get to understand the complex mechanisms.

Conclusion, the 15' MacBook would be better to play. And upgraded specs too, to get more details on screen.

hope this helps.

Civ 6 is totally playable even on the 2013 13" MBP (albeit not on high settings).
