I'm seeing more games being released on Mac OS X. First XCom, then Borderlands 2, then Sim City.

Rockstar has been pretty quiet on what future platforms will be released. Do you think OS X will be one of them and would you get it if it was?

I'd be all in if it was lol

No.

Get a console or a PC to play games.
Macs suck for gaming unless you install boot camp. Even then, they run hot and not as good as similarly specced DIY PC gaming boxes.

Rockstar brought the previous GTA games to OSX in recent years. So yes there is some chance they could bring GTA V to MacOSX.... but realistically the delay between PC release and the Mac port could take at least 1 year or more.

It also may not come to PS4 which sucks. I got rid of my PS3 already and am waiting for the 4. I would have got it on OS X.

Get a console

Well I have 3 x PS3, and 2 x Xbox 360s. Not sure if you're aware, but the hardware is pretty outdated now.

I can't be bothered to spend $600+ on a decent GPU just to play games when I already have an i7 iMac with a 680MX.

I'm over the whole DIY PC gamer box. Worst bottomless pit ever!

Good point. Thanks for the insight.

I'd be surprised if it doesn't. The PS4 and Xbox One run a similar architecture to the PC, which means creating a console version from a PC will be much easier than the past.

Whoever said it may not come to the PS4 is pulling your leg I think.

If gaming (especially with new games) is a big priority the mac is the wrong type of PC to get. PC's running OSX don't get the cream of the crop in gaming, you still need windows for that...

How about $300 ?

Why do you think that ?

You don't need the absolute latest everything and upgrade every 3 months. $1000 will get you a nice gaming rig well capable of playing pretty much any game and you can upgrade 1 or 2 parts every four years (which will cost you about the price of 4 console games).

The DIY PC gamer box is a great investment.

It was Rockstar who said it, could be just for marketing purposes make you shell out for it on both systems

It was over 6 months between GTA IV's console release and the PC port; they've said nothing so far about a PC release of GTA V. So factor that into the potential delay.

Since the Windows version isn't usually released until about a year after the console release, you're probably looking at least a two year wait for an OS X version.

I'm not too sure about that. All the promotional videos before console release are on a high end spec machine. You would think they're getting close.

Oh I'm sure the PC version is basically already done, they just don't want to release it yet. Most companies start with a PC like architecture and then port over, especially with the next gen consoles compare even more to PC architecture...

Cause you're asking me to spend more money into a bottomless pit when I already have a very capable mac?

I thought by 'bottomless pit', you were referring to the DIY gaming rigs and the notion that you need to keep upgrading it with the latest GPUs every 2 months in order to play new games ( which is ridiculous at best ).

Your iMac maybe capable in terms of hardware, but they usually have mobile versions of the GPUs which are nowhere near the beasts that their desktop counterparts are. You can certainly expect to play most games on a 680MX, but not at the settings you want to.

Those could be the new console versions. Or just pre-renders. Still no guarantee that there is going to be a PC version, Rockstar have yet to announce anything. Based on how they've done it in the past, I'd say the Windows version is still about a year away from release and OS X probably hasn't even been thought about yet.

I admire your optimism. But history and continued silence off Rockstar says there is going to be a wait ahead of you.

I'd bet it isn't a technical problem at all. They probably want people to buy the console versions first. Once they've milked that, they'll release a PC version for the folks who care about modding. That way, you get people who will buy the game twice. If they released a PC version right away, then those double sales would be gone. I think you're years away from an OSX version. The market's not big enough for them to care. GTA V is a hardcore gamer type game and those types of gamers usually don't use Macs for gaming.

The 'bottomless pit' comment was pretty hilarious. Not sure how a gaming PC would be a bottomless pit unless you're one of those who thought they needed to buy the latest/greatest graphics card every year.

I wish there was a freeform mode like each PC version had. I don't like the story mode that the console forces you to play. I wanted to explore the GTA world on my own and very disappointed in the console version.

I dont really understand what you mean by this... Sure the beginning kinda forced you along for a bit, but pretty much all of the previous GTA's did this as well for at least a small amount of time. Once you get past the first 2-3 missions though you are welcome to do whatever the heck you want.

In fact, this is the first GTA game that offered the entire map to be already open rather than blocking off certain sections of the city until you reached X point in the game. This has been the most open game of the series so far, and frankly, I thought it was awesome!

The 3 character system provides even more open-ness as well, since you can practically transport across the entire map (albeit to a random area...) at will, whenever you want.

Selling your PS3 before the PS4 is even out, that sounds excessive.
Not really wasn't going to buy the only 2 current games I'm interested in anyway (GTA V and 2k14) for a near months rental. I can wait a month and a couple weeks for some basketball and the new COD. I got good money for it as well.

Though no GTA IV. :(

Thanks. Then it is like the other ones on the PC. I think my problem is I have no idea how to save the game so I have to play the early missions over an over and I am not a console person at all. I wasn't finished with one early mission and I saw some dude riding a bike so I got out of my car and knocked down the biker and starting riding his bike. After a few feet, get the message "Mission failed.".
