It's fine to Charge your iPhone with your iPad Charger but NEVER use the iPhone Charger as it is only 5 Volts to charge your iPad... Unless you are asking to destroy your iPhone Charger..
You're reviving an ancient thread, but it's not going to fry the 5W iPhone brick if you charge an iPad with it. It will just charge the iPad slowly at 5W.

That's not true at all. You will simply charge your iPad at a slower rate.
If that were true, you'd burn out USB ports on your computer which are only rated from 2.5W by spec (but often exceed this.)
All USB AC adapters deliver their maximum power safely without being destroyed.
I do USB power testing for a product at a consumer electronics company.

Does the iPad 10W charger work with iPhones?

If you are traveling, is there a reason to carry 2 chargers-- one for each device?

Will the 10W charger charge the iPhone faster than the USB charger that iPhone has now, or will it simply fry it?

All of the "plus" versions of the iPhones will charge TWICE as fast (to 80%) with the 10W Apple Charger.
