With the steep price of the new Samsung S20 series do you think this will make Apple less hesitant to jack up their prices for new releases ? Maybe they feel it won't be such a shock if they did since hey Samsung did it first.

iphone 11 - $700
iphone 11 Pro - $1000
iphone 11 Pro Max - $1100

Samsung S20 - $1000
Samsung S20 + - $1200
Samsung S20 Ultra - $1400

What do you think ?

They will go up only due to 5G.

Apple are not exactly driven by what Android manufacturers do, as we have seen in the past, they work at their own pace and when it comes to pricing they really do their own thing

I mean in 2017 we were all just minding our own business and out of nowhere Apple decided that $1000 was now what we should pay MINIMUM for a flagship.

They will go up due to 5G. Ming Chi has already reported this several times.

You think the new 12 releases will get 5G across the board or just the Pro equivalents ?

A 5G price bump is a tough sell to the millions of Xr, 11 buyers.

I think it is premature since the affects of Corona Virus will still be affecting us this fall. Fewer people buying phones. So reduce price to goose the market? Raise prices to help make up for lower sales?

I don't think Apple will have any qualms abut bumping the prices on the Pro models. The 5.4" and 6.1" OLED replacements for the iPhone 11 though... I don't think they will want to increase the price too much on the price sensitive mainstream models. Having said that, they are likely to cost a chunk more than the 11 to make assuming both OLED and 5G. At most the 5.4" might go back to the XRs original price of $749, and the 6.1" will be $100 more. At least the 'iPhone 9' will be a small price cut over the 8!

Android prices with the 5G snapdragon chip are more expensive. Apple isn’t forced to use snapdragons chips, so it’s up to them how much they raise prices. Snapdragon has android manufacturers over a barrel.

But didn't Apple settle their legal battle with Qualcom and paid them billions so they could use Qualcoms Snapdragon chips?

As long as there are people willing to buy them by any cost, the prices will go up.

That’s probably not accurate for 2020. Think about it for a minute, right now, we essentially have a recession on our hands in terms of the pandemic causing consumers to save their money, given the uncertainty of the economic state moving forward. No one, [and I mean no one] is purchasing the iPhone at ‘any cost right now’. 2020 will probably be one of the worst years for iPhone rev’ specifically given The ‘tech market’ will suffer severely for the next six months.

Sometimes a competitor's price hike is a license to raise ones own prices. Other times, if ones costs are under control, it can be an opportunity to under-price the competition and potentially steal market share. What Apple might do this time is unknowable.

I agree mostly but Apple also wants to be known as the most premium phone brand. Might be hard to do of your main competitors phones cost more.

There have been times when Apple's top-of-the-line cost $50 (US) less than Samsung's and other times when the prices matched.

The perception of "premium" involves more than just price, and I think in many people's minds, "expensive" doesn't need to be "most expensive" in order to maintain a premium image.

there will be four iPhones coming this year

so the two regular iPhone 12 will keep it at $650 for the entry level and $750 for the bigger model

the two pro iPhone 12 might have two versions with 5G and without 5G, so the 5G might make it more expensive than Samsung.

No, they do not. As a matter fact, their competitors have been producing ‘premium’ phones for years on Apple’s level in terms of hardware. What separates Apple from others, is there integration of iOS. That’s what makes Apple so lucrative with their iPhone sales, It has nothing to do with the premium, when all smart phones have generally become on that level that Apple had the upper hand them in the years past. Times have changed.

I don’t know. No bigger spanner in the works than this virus. Many people may not be in a position to spend money on an entry level iPhone in October, let alone the extra asking price of a bumped up flagship...

I agree with Ralfi. Apple might want to bump the prices up, but a lot will happen between now and fall. The economy may be much worse. 5G hasn't rolled out to most areas yet either so I don't see most people willing to pay extra for something they can't use.

This thread is mute anyway, Samsung prices drop 10, 20, 30% plus within months, iPhones don’t.
