What actually does USB-C offer that current cabling technologies do not?

Usb C is old technology. 8 years even for Apple.

Faster charging and faster I/O. And u can use the same cable across all future mobile devices. Not only mobiles. At least in the EU

Spot on. Using one cable to charger your phone, laptop, tablet, wireless headphones, wireless earbuds, battery bank etc etc is great. Coupled with faster data transfer speeds (where applicable) is the icing on the cake. The sooner the iphone moves to USB-C the better!
