Will MacBooks ever get the glowing logo back?

They were only illuminated by the screen backlight, so no additional power involved.
That is correct, there was a logo-shaped weakness on the back of the aluminum case that could break your screen if something poked through that logo hard enough. Trust me, I accidentally did that once. It was a stupid design that served no valuable purpose.
Looked toy’ish, made it annoying to work in dark places, and bad retro...nah

Anytime Apple removes something for whatever reason, it’s unlikely that tight-wad Tim would re-introduce it. Now, they were forced to re-introduce MagSafe and the SD Card slot because of consumer out-cry. 😐
I don’t agree with this. Sure it was for looks but looks aren’t necessarily to impress other people. Maybe I want to look good for myself when I’m looking at it. I have a beautiful looking car and it has nothing to do with what other people will think when they look at it. I spent all that money for me to look at it.
I agree that it probably won’t come back because unless they can figure a way to backlight it without screen bleed through it’s unnecessary and not important.
I don't think we will ever see the glowing apple again. I read on a forum somewhere that it was because the lids are smaller now and there just wasn't room to add that in. Whether that is true or not, only apple knows, but seems feasible
I hope not. Not unless Apple would like to pay me for the privilege of being a billboard. The over-sized black logo that replaced it is obnoxious enough on its own, but at least it's not a nerd bat signal.
I remember getting Airs returned to us at work with broken logos, if Apple replaces the screen for free - then by all means, bring it back.
God I hope not. I always hated that thing. I would cover it with gaffers tape to keep it from annoying people in dark spaces.
It was lit by the screen’s backlight so this won’t even be possible anymore once the machines go OLED.
I thought it was iconic like the BMW or Mercedes logo etc

It wasn't until reading your post that I realized my MBP has an SD card slot. I am an idiot.
With the local dimming on the pro Macbook screens and in the future indeed with OLED screens it is not possible anymore to use a backside of the backlit panel. So it is indeed unlikely to come back.
Or it becomes a feature with Vision that it glows in AR when you look to a backside of a Macbook 😁

Can we have the Touch Bar back? I mean nobody said the Touch Bar was bad per se, it was just that we wanted the function row back again as well. Why not have both?
It was charming, but I prefer today without — especially since one doesn’t have to worry about the sun suddenly making a Apple logo pop up on your digital desktop 🤭
I don’t need to brag to the rest of the world (with a lit logo) that I am using a Mac.
It's unlikely. The glowing logo was illuminated by the LCD backlight of the screen but with the XDR displays we no longer have one continuous backlight panel but instead we have local dimming zones. This would cause the logo to be lit unevenly unless you were displaying something that lights up the entire screen.
