I have the 2.4ghz machine, it is indeed very fast.

I did however notice that although the OS remains as quick as day #1, the browsers will slow based on plugins like Flash and Flashgot.

At least Adobe Lightroom is really, really quick working with EOS350D RAW files. Woo!

Oh ...OK...glad to know that!
Thought that this new Leopard will come hand in hand with a new hardware upgrade for the MBP to keep them all current...at least I can get to feel fasssst a bit while more. Thanks
...phew

is that hard drives tend to get slower the more you fill them up. My powerbook with 1 gig ram and an 80 gig drive became much more useable after I went from about 4 gigs free to 40.

Interesting, What is the technical reason behind such a speed boost? The thing is, I have about 4 gegs free on my G4 powerbook and always thought that that should be enough free space for 10.4 to operate efficiently.

Because a small amount of free disk space means you only have a small space for the page file. I've seen mine use up to 10gigs.
Rule of thumb, try and keep 10% of your disk free.

this is what I'm getting...

it should last me a while.

Good, and yes it should last you for quite a while to come. :)

I'm looking at buying either the 2.2 or 2.4GHz MacBook Pro, but only with 2 GB of RAM at the moment. How good is the 128MB 8600-GT? Would I be better off purchasing the 15.4" with the 256MB 8600-GT?

Thanks in advance

So far the 128MB 8600GT has proved to be great for gaming. I have not had much time to play games lately, but the few that I have were smooth as butter.

Check out www.barefeats.com for some comparison between the two models gaming performance. They show a few extra fps when the MacBook Pro has the faster CPU and extra VRAM- so you have to ask yourself if 2-5 extra fps are worth $500? :)
