Has apple actually said it will be exclusively as a download?, i see nothing on their website saying it will be exclusively available as a download

There is a small chance even new Macs will be sold without a Restore DVD since Lion is moving to the Recovery/Restore Partition. I can see them now not even including a DVD with new Macs.
This just in: Apple are going to supply Lion via thumb drive, delivered by carrier pigeon. There, now that's news!

As much as i believe you guys i can see why apple would have dvd's, you know there are still people either without internet or with very slow lines, so i can see that apple my do something like the 10.4 cd's where you have to call them to order them

I have the preview installed, but it didn't create a partition.
Do you think it will be a downloadable iOS. disk image that we can keep and burn. I know no one knows. And its probably been mentioned a million times already. But what if we want to put a new drive. Will we have to pirate it and then burn it. LOL

How do you know it didn't create a partition? I know someone who installed it, and the "recovery" partition doesn't show up in DU, but it is still there, as it is available as a boot volume when you hold down OPT upon boot!
you can pull the image from the installer then burn it to a disk, so no you won't have to pirate it

If you look at the current Air line up, they come with resotre flash drives. Same with all new machines going forward. DVD drives will be dropping like flies from the Mac lineup.

If you watch the video they say and I quote "The Mac app store is the only place to download lion" they never said there wont be a disk.
If Lion is download only, how would one go out installing on a new hard drive? Snow Leopard (with all the updates to get the app store) then Lion? Seems kind of lame...
The new iMacs one can't replace the HDD, maybe the rest of their line will go that way so installing on a new HDD wont be needed.
I can see situations where one would want/need to install on a new HDD. Your method seems the only legit way of doing it at the moment (agreed Lame). Hopefully Apple offer a official way to burn it to dvd or a thumbdrive.

I'm not darrellishere but anyway I had the recovery partition until I enabled FileVault. Now it's gone both from DU and Opt boot.How do you know it didn't create a partition? By making Lion "downloadable only from the Apple Store", Apple is trying to "bend the market" into a new shape that conforms to what _they_ (Apple) think it should be.
The "market" doesn't work that way. Instead -- like Adam Smith's "invisible hand" -- the market works to satisfy itself.
Apple is going to discover that their distribution model, while attractive to some, will cause problems for others.
I predict Lion's sales will be brisk at the beginning (due to downloads from folks who are capable of obtaining it that way), but will quickly taper off. There's a large share of "potential buyers" out there who simply won't have the means to get ahold of it.
I predict that when the idealist marketing guys at Apple (including Mr. Jobs himself) finally perceive this, they will relent and offer a "hard copy" purchase option of Lion at "extra cost". It's reasonable that a hard copy version should cost more, due to the extra expenses of manufacturing and distribution. $40-50 might be what it sells for.

Well my point is that doesn't say Exclusively a Mac App Store download
it would still make sense to offer a dvd, for things like a failed hdd a recovery partition is not going to be much help, one thing i can be sure of is that macs will ship with restore disks i am 100% sure of that
