They are slightly cheaper today in regards to buying power, however Apple has come a long way since 2004 and refined its manufacturing processes and reduced costs. I would expect the 2016 MBP it to be cheaper then what it is now.

They can be cheaper, but people are willing to pay the price which is why Apple's hardware margins are the envy of the industry.

As for old tech prices, my most expensive computer was a 1989 HP Vectra RS/25c workstation at $25,000.
 
If the iMac is redesigned, expect a price increase. I feel that Apple will redesign it this year or next with a move to all SSD and that it will be a high end model only for the time being. They will then leave the current iMac at the low end until they can move the price down.

Think about it...why has Apple not given more options for HDDs when they go up to like 8gb now? Because when they move to SSDs they can now offer 2TB, which is close to the max in the iMac's already (granted price will be crazy).
