I believe you meant, it would be more useful and less controlled, than on ATT.

If it was like other Verizon smartphones, we would be able to use Slingbox and Skype over 3G. And get applications from any app store we wanted. Even put on our choice of theme.

Darn them. Darn them to heck.

Seriously, the only big deal would most likely be their desire to put on a Verizon logo. I have no problem with that. I use a covering case anyway.

Okay, well I stand corrected, since you sound like you know more about Verizon than I do. I was mostly going by hearsay, to tell you the truth, and my own knowledge about how they are about other things other than smartphones. I only have Verizon for my home phone and DSL. Anyway, so much for hearsay.
Are you sure Verizon let people use those apps over the 3G network? I was at a Verizon store with a co-worker last week and I asked the sales person and they said they didn't and also told me no phones offer WiFi because he said their 3G network was just as fast (riiiight  ).
We will never know what Apple and Verizon will allow or not unless Verizon gets the iPhone.

Korea approve iPhone

Just saw this in the WSJ today. Apple is not commenting.

However, if they start selling iPhone in Korea, that phone will have CDMA/CDMA2000 [probably on multiple frequencies] ... which is the same as what is needed for Verizon.

We shall see and I hope that happens.

I had an iPhone and loved it. However, the AT&T service really, really sucks at least near my home as in I got one bar or less. So, I am back to Verizon and my iPhone has essentially become an iTouch ... but at least I can make phone calls (4 bars!)

[Current iPhone has GSM/EDGE/UMTS-WCDMA on multiple frequency bands]

Korea has had a UMTS/WCDMA network for quite some time.

Interesting. Didn't know that. In that case, one can definitely use the existing iPhone as long as the service provider is willing to push all voice and data services over the 3G network.

Kind of odd though to have an UMTS/WCDMA network when all the phones are CDMA/CDMA2000. Are there a lot of phones that have CDMA/CDMA2000/WCDMA (over and above those that incorporates both GSM as well as CDMA for international business travelers that needed both - and Verizon now also sells but at a very high price)?
