Not last year. it was 2 weeks after the pre-sales. A very, very long 2 weeks :(
Indeed it was, however it gives Apple more time to fulfill preorders on time. Far fewer issues last year with preorders being delivered on time, on launch day, as expected. Plus, 1 additional week means millions more units that can be available for the launch weekend.

Also, we saw indications already that merchandising resets were going to occur at AT&T stores on the 9th and 23rd, possibly indicating Pre-order and Release dates.

For those of you that know more about this than I do, is it better to remain in the public beta and get the GM OTA or should I downgrade and do a clean/full install of the GM once it's released publicly?

So I currently have my ipad on dev beta and my iphone on public beta. As far as I understood my ipad will get the gm but my iphone will not. At public release both the iphone (that runs the last beta) and the ipad (thats runs gm) will get OTA iOS 10.0 public release right?and after that i will keep getting betas of 10.x on both iphone and ipad respectively right?i dont need to delete any profiles to get the public release?

Should be fine to update OTA. I typically close all apps and reboot device before performing new OTA updates. Seems to work great. You can also update via iTunes to get the full install verses delta. Most likely no real need to do a clean install in most cases.

Not necessarily. Once the develops get the GM, you can download it from the internet and side load it to your device. Once you see that its been released to developers, just google iOS 10 GM ipsw and I am sure you will find lots of sites that will offer the download.

The only downside is is that you must restore your device and do a clean install. If you wait for apple to push it over the air, you may do the update while keeping your data.

You don't have to do a clean install, you can upgrade.

You need Xcode 8 beta, Sierra beta, or you can do it with a developer profile OTA. Google, you should be able to find one.
So I downloaded a developer profile and it showed up on my macs desktop as a window in settings. It says some stuff and it says "verified" in green. I don't know what else to do after that.

Download it on your iPhone.

Never mind! Didn't realize the GM was widely available to devs.
