how do you know that is a mute switch?? couldn't it be a master on/off switch, or for some other function? what makes u assume it must be a mute switch?

Calm down! As you can see from the above poster there was no assumption and excuse me for not posting the appropriate pic.

good grief dude. I am calm. can't I ask a question about WHY someone feels a switch is a mute switch?

the picture linked to by adanimal clearly shows a switch labeled "mute". was that so hard??

I started following this guy on Twitter (@sonny788) who is the source for a new post about the iPad network settings on 9to5mac. Apparently he found a way to unlock the settings screens in the SDK. I had asked Seth Weintraub of 9to5mac if the iPad SDK contained settings for sounds, and he said it didn't earlier today. But now this guy has unlocked them. You can see in this YouTube video the vibration settings (its quick, you have to pause it):

As you can also tell, there are ringtone settings, etc. This can mean one of three things:

1.) The iPad will have vibration
2.) The iPad will not have vibration because these are just hold-overs from the iPhone SDK much like the camera button in 3.2 SDK beta 1.
3.) The iPad will have vibration, but this menu is also a hold-over.

I'm not sure if it narrows things down much, but it's an interesting video. I'm hoping for vibration for games.

Unfortunately, I'm not "most people," I have a severe hearing loss, so I don't hear most notifications and alarms through the tinny iPhone speakers. I don't know if the iPad's speakers are louder than the iPhones, but having a "vibrate to notify" option gives me more peace of mind, especially since if the vibrate can be set "loud" enough, I can feel it through a table or the floor. Hm, I should probably write Apple and suggest this as an accessibility feature. ;)

Ah, didn't consider people with hearing loss. Fair enough. :)

I have my Twitterific App set to vibrate on new Tweets on my iPhone because I don't like it when people around me can *hear* when I'm checking for new tweets so I really hope my new iPad will have a vibrate option. Also for games.
