Thanks. Decisions, decisions! get the iPhone 5? or wait and gamble that the 6 will eventually have a jailbreak? Hmmmmm....

one workaround is that there is thin colored plastic you can put on pc screens that will do the same thing as Flux ..... but i assume that putting plastic on the iPhone screen would render the touch-screen non-functional?

Not sure if you need flux right away for a specific reason or if it's just something you really want so you can save your eyes and limit tension headaches when using your device in the dark, but if I were you, I would buy the new iPhone on or near launch day. As much as you'll want a jailbreak, having a brand new iPhone for the first couple months is very enjoyable and for me, a die hard jailbreaker, it's usually enough to hold me over until a JB comes out. I would get the iPhone 6 and just wait it out like the rest of the jailbreak community.

Unless you buy the 5 now and then upgrade in 2 months, you might regret not waiting especially if a jailbreak comes out in the first few months.

However, it is a risk because there is never an ETA on a jailbreak. The main JB devs don't give out ETAs for obvious reasons. Like Intell said, there's a chance there won't be a JB. There's also a chance the JB will come out in the first couple months after release. The truth is probably in the middle :D.

Edit: Whatever you decide, you will immediately love flux on iOS if you're a fan if their computer version. It works perfectly. I can't use my iPhone or iPad at night without it. It's truly unbelievable how bright and blue the stock screen is. Flux is the best!

Thank you so much! Great advice. I am going to continue to look into those Rubylith workarounds i talked about above (something i need to do anyway for my TV). And then hope for the JB with FLux.

If i can get those Rubylith workarounds to work, i'll be good to go in 4 weeks when the iPhone 6 comes out!

That's my logic too with new iPhone releases. The newness factor usually ends up holding me over until a new jailbreak is released and then I am able to load my tweaks back.

Lol no system is unhackable. And the reason it takes so long to release a jailbreak is that the devs dont wanna waste exploits on every .0.x upgrade. I garuntee that one of the devs will succesfully jailbreak the iphone 6 within a month.

See?
All you naysayers.
Someone does know!

Lol i try. But really though. There will be a failbreak at least within a month. As soon as ios 8 has been failbroken, the iphone 6 will be and then we just wait for the real jailbreak to be released. And now with so many teams competing to release one first i bet we will see one sooner than normal this year.

It will be released not too long after the iphone 6 debut , but dont count on the Evaders team to jailbreak Ios8, the jailbreak will come from China from the Pangu team. They will be the first ones out with a jailbreak for the new OS.

Doesn't the chip have something to do with it as well? So even if there is a jailbreak for ios 8 readily available, it probably won't work on the iPhone 6 because of the new A8 chip.

The different CPU has become less of a variable because all jailbreaks starting with the A5 CPU must be userland based.

New OS + new hardware = possible hard time jailbreaking and will need time. We'll know more and the possibilities over time after the phone has actually come out and made it's way into jailbreakers hands. They may hold off on releasing anything until the updated iPads have been released as well.

New operating system and new hardware also mean new vulnerabilities. I'm fairly confident that someone will jailbreak the next ios and phone, hopefully sooner rather than later.

And every year it becomes more likely.

I'd hope this year might be better than last, if both evaders and pangu are working on it. One reason we got ios 7 JB so early was because they wanted to get it out before geohot - so if there is more competition now it might help :/

I don't see why anyone would release a jailbreak when ios 8/iphone 6 launches though. Would be far more beneficial to everyone to wait till at least the new iPads are out in October/November, presuming there is even one before then of course.
